Portal

Nov 9, 2021, 7:56 PM

Know this is a popular/unpopular topic, but what’s the difference with the portal compared to players leaving before the portal?? How early can they play once they’ve entered the portal and a team picks them up? Keep seeing post about us using the portal to fill positions this year but what’s the point if they can’t play?

It's about roster management

Each year you put a plan in place based on positions you LL need. You might have a large number of kids leaving from the defense side. So you go hard after d players.
But during the season other positions enter the portal to leave. So now you need another OT and running backs. But you still need the defense players. So if your not careful your roster can get one sided. You can end up with alot of 4 or 5 stars at one position. You can be thin in another. You can call a high school guy and offer what you need but signing day is a couple weeks away.

Some teams look at juco kids some go to the Portal to fill in the gaps. You can sign up to 7 portal kids per year. Most in the portal are 3 star guys, it's not as easy to find that diamond your looking for.

There are 5-6Xs as many 3*s as there are 4&5*s combined in the FBS, curious of the portal ratio?****
