No Southern Cal has their own problems. In regards to SCar its not that they did anything wrong but Jeffery would not be eligible to play in the NCAA if this is true.

The NCAA and most schools have established minimum standards/requirements for admission/eligibilty.
If there is a questionable course (on-line or otherwise)the legitimacy of which cannot be verified, you simply don't accept it.

I'm picturing someone looking at a transcript that says someone got a "C" in English in the sophomore year. How do you find out if they actually earned a "C"? Ask the teacher? They're the ones who gave them the C. Review all of the student's tests and quizzes for that class? Seems tedious.

Policing the integrity of teachers and/or counselors....

would be incredibly difficult if not impossible. I was referring more to the legitimacy of the actual courses. If the school is offering the course and it is a Honors or AP level course, you almost have to assume that it's legitimate.

LOL - can barely escape Calhoun County (which is probably one of the worst school systems in SC) but can make it through 3 years at USuC? Just another Alvin Greene. Every time I read this stuff I want a refund of the portion of my taxes going to that diploma mill.

SAT scores are adjusted periodically so that 500 per section (math, verbal, and now writing) is the average, as in 50% of students make above and below 500. The standard deviation of scores is 100 points. Since practically 100% of data falls within 3 standard deviations from the mean, the SAT folks decided that 200 - 800 would be the max and min scores for a section.
A score of 770 would fall more than 2 standard deviations from the mean. This would mean that a 770 score would be in approximately the 1% range of all scores. (Someone correct me if that is wrong.)

I understand policy about not discussing a students academics, but since a college scholarship athlete's grades would have been accessible to lots of other entities, it would make me wonder why suddenly that topic is verboten.

770 to get in USC?
Sep 11, 2012, 9:14 AM

basically all you have to do is play pick C on every question to get a 770. did he take college prep classes in HS? USuC will not accept a regular student if they have any tech prep High school classes on their transcript. or is that rule different for athletes as well.

to make themselves look better. What was called basic in the 70's was called CP time my daughter got to HS. It was explained to me that because a student can get into the local tech school , it's college prep. If they're in AP or Honors cl;##### they better be making A's & B's if they're going to survive in a real college nowadays.
I just know my daughter was always trained on hitting the 1400 line on the SAT, so this 770 score looks low to me.
H3ll the local hospital and ROTC want a C average and 950 - 1000 on the SAT to be sponsored in college.770 just seems low, I thought I'd ask those board members not as far removed from HS as I.
