Hyman at A&M and Conference [Re]Alignment

Jul 14, 2012, 1:26 PM

If the other shoe drops and realignment does happen, how does this affect Clemson? I would imagine this would be a vote against us and a vote for UNC in the SEC, if they are ever interested?

While A&M certainly didn't hire Hyman for this reason, I'd imagine they are concerned about the academic profile of the SEC and would be interested in promoting ties to improve it, and of course UNC would accomplish this goal plus improving basketball and providing a new market.

On the other hand, does coming in with UNC offer our best shot? (In other words, do we have a better shot of getting in with a partner who provides a new market?) I know people talk about NCSU, but I just don't see that, and VT doesn't have the long-term potential of either Clemson or UNC. I like VT, but they're at their zenith, in my opinion.

So, is Clemson moving to the state of NC or VA? If not, the SEC is not happening.

but I also think protecting a national brand is highly important. I'm not sure that making decisions with long-term repercussions based on potentially short-term media delivery options is wise. On the other hand, I'm not sure anything relating to conference expansion is wise...

If the SEC ever were to give consideration (they won't) to expanding within their footprint, Florida State would be who they'd invite. The fact is that money determines everything. And the SEC national brand is difficult to tarnish as it is. After all, there's nothing special about Missouri and Texas A&M.

I could never see unc in the sec.....

Jul 14, 2012, 1:43 PM

Getting out of the acc would be the loss of their greatest strength.

I really can't see us in the sec or out of the acc.

I see the sec taking more teams from the big 12.

Hyman going to a&m gives them a proven sec ad. Perfect for them as they just enter the sec. Hyman also has family in Texas.

I wonder how much longer fsu fans will put up with jimbo. If he doesn't do it this year they will be calling for his head.

It wouldn't be my preference, either. We just have more in

common with ACC schools. But the SEC would certainly be our best option in the event of conference instability OR the likely situation that the ACC puts us in a big hole financially.

Money is not a problem at UNC they can raise money

Jul 14, 2012, 2:16 PM

with the best of them. UNC takes a back seat to no one except Texas when it comes to raising money. UNC will never leave the ACC. I could never see any of the four North Carolina schools leaving the ACC for any other conference just too much history and tradition. Unlike some of the Clemson fans the North Carolina fans love the ACC. Most of what Clemson fans dislike the ACC over is mostly rumor and not even true. The ACC will be okay and will become a football power soon just too much potential for it not to happen.

Look it is real simple, the SEC is not going to offer a powerful football program like FSU or Clemson to come in and beat up on each other. They want new tv markets with powder puff football programs like a NC ST. or etc.

The extra year probation above and beyond what the NCAA had levied was not rumor........and it certainly was true.....

care to elaborate?

Re: Even if the product on the field improves, the schools

Jul 14, 2012, 2:54 PM [ in reply to Money is not a problem at UNC they can raise money ]

in the ACC are too small, too private/elite, located in states with too many professional sports options, and located in states with too many other colleges - I don't think the money will equalize based simply on quality of play. Hope I'm wrong.

I'm pretty sure Texas has more colleges than any acc state as well as more professional teams than anyone. Don't really understand what that has to do with anything.

are at any given time. If no one cares, they have little value! There's no way to make people care about Wake or BC, if even winning doesn't make them valuable.

Maybe not but it sure impacts our options. USC has gotten

Jul 14, 2012, 4:20 PM

better for a several reasons. The SEC is the major one, along with Spurrier and a commitment from BOT, etc.
