GT vs Clemson?

Nov 13, 2013, 1:17 PM

You won't need differential equations to do this math.

Clemson 48
GT 13

It's late in Venables' second season here.

He's a linebacker coach from helll. LBs are the crew he's talking about being disciplined. They are the key to stopping this Mickey Mouse offense. I have all confidence in this crew of LBs to stay focused on their assignments.

They are def better this season. If we can get up early and make GT throw the ball we could blow them out. But GT can chew the clock and make our chances limited.

Correct.

The focus required to stop the option wears on the mind as well as the body. A team that can't defend the option and score early is at a natural disadvantage.

They guys on Tnet who call for our LB to hit the QB are exactly right. It's partly mental that he know he's getting hit but it works on our guys too. If everyone on the field knows the QB is gonna take a hit they know he's gonna get rid of the ball most of the time.

That makes all of our defenders aware that the ball may come their way. That keeps the other LBs and cover guys on assignment instead of wondering if they need to change assignment to stop the QB.

You can't stand flat footed and watch, you just have to do your job.

As long as Quandon Christian is on the field...

I refuse to use the term "discipline".

I hate to be this way but the truth is, we've gotten better and better with our recruiting. I'm glad to see some guys graduate.

I'm not naming names but a few years ago had a Mike who was a stellar athlete but couldn't find his ### with a flashlight, roadmap and both hands. I attribute two of our losses to GT to him. We also had guys in the secondary who couldn't cover a tipped over outhouse with a D10 dozer and ten tons of sand.

Anyone who can't see our defense getting better and better for the quality of recruiting is blind.
