It is the death of truth as an ideal, I think.

The non binary narrative about gender is an example. The beginning premise is that sex is biological but gender is not, that gender is a 'social construct'. Fine. I could actually go with that. So a y chromosome swimmer wants to compete against x chromosome swimmers because he identifies as - and I am not making this up - a thing his premise says doesn't exist. He agrees that he has a y chromosome, but says he identifies with the social construct of what I, but not he, says exists, a woman, giving him the right to an arena created for x chromosome people. And the left not only promotes that abandonment of rationality, but calls him 'brave' and wants to institutionalize it.
Talk about your social constructs...
Any tribal based, group identity ideology requires a similar lie-become-truth. One of the better explanations of the lie behind current race based politics is expressed by this guy. I have to say he is a black professor at Columbia (the smart one) to authenticate it: the left says that if he was white he couldn't be correct in his observations. But pick any ideology based truth (except for one, and that's another subject), and one finds this type of lie, the one that truth is defined by the group. https://thinkr.org/newsletter/woke-racism-how-a-new-religion-has-betrayed-black-americaKey insights from: Woke Racism Linguist and Columbia University professor John McWhorter argues that while the antiracist movement is often viewed as a political phenomenon, it is better characterized as a religion. It scratches all the itches that religions conventionally deliver: hallowed tenets to be taken on faith, a path to atonement, doctrines of original sin, and visions of a coming …

100% accurate. Especially this:
There are numerous superstitions that Elect believers have to look away from in order to hold on to their faith and avoid lapses into doubt:
The Elect have to ignore black students getting beaten up by other black students in schools. A 2014 letter from the US Department of Education corroborated the conclusion that black boys are disciplined to a much greater extent than boys of other races, and this is due to racism. Other high-ranking groups have reported similar findings. But the uncomfortable truth is that black boys simply tend to commit more violent acts than other students. Because many people attribute the higher numbers of black students in public schools being disciplined to prejudice, more and more, school violence is going unreported. Teachers don’t want to be accused of being bigots. And since it’s disproportionately black students fighting other black students, black students are being disproportionately harmed.
And since there is no consequence for bad behavior it gets worse. Same thing plays out in crime. If there are no consequences, it spreads and increases.
And I just wrote about this yesterday. As they say flunking is a problem, but graduating when they should have flunked is also a big problem, eventually.
Another grievance that the Elect have to overlook is the way black university students disproportionately flunk when they are catapulted via affirmative action and other inflated metrics into top schools. These are institutions where professors assume a level of familiarity with abstract ideas (or at least the skill of faking it) and move through their courses at a fast pace and with great rigor. Imagine growing up in a home without any books, and a much more practical body of knowledge to navigate the day-to-day, then jumping into college courses like these. Students unaccustomed to the rigors of a top tier school end up leaving majors and their dreams of becoming lawyers and scientists. Majorities of such students are black and Latino. As a result of their struggles and academic failures, they feel demoralized.

their racism, which is a very regretful and divisive thing, so the left brands those observations as racist. Actual truth is abandoned. That was my too-many-words point: not who is racist and sexist and who is not, but that we no longer really care. We have divided along partisan/ideological lines and fight for power. Truth no longer matters in politics because it doesn't matter anywhere.

getting to the point where words no longer have any meaning. All "words" are to be regarded as nothing more than individual expressions, merely sounds or random letters with no objective independent standards. All meaning and "truth" is determined by the mob that happens to be screaming the loudest.
I haven't read McWhorter's "Woke Racism" yet, but I've watched a ton of promos and youtube interviews about it. It's on my list, for sure. I've also watched a lot of his stuff with Glenn Loury.

I could actually go with the 'words have no meaning', except
Jan 29, 2022, 10:04 AM

for the fact that the left will impose their words at the point of a governmental sword.
I could go with "non binary" gender. If a y chromosome person wants to dress like the socially constructed ideals of x chromosome people, that's fine with me. If the ideals are socially constructed, he can choose his own. If they are not socially constructed, the rest of us will do what seems natural to us. Fine. But of course that is not the actual desired end result, so 'non binary' is used to justify forcing gender definition into what is actually sex. You couldn't make up this group think outside of a science fiction novel. I would say Orwell already did that, but to say so is alleged proof I haven't read it.

That's what I mean by "no objective independent standards". We have always known exactly what words like male/female, man/woman, and he/she meant. Most of us still do. But now there is a mob that screams louder than any other, and they are trying to render those words meaningless. It's scary when you think about it.
I know some folks who had a daughter who apparently always felt like something wasn't quite right while growing up. Turns out she felt like she was supposed to be a boy; and at some point in her teens she truly began to identify as a boy. Now, as a young adult HE has made the transition. The parents love their child and while this was extremely difficult for all concerned, I applaud them all for loving and embracing their child as he went through this very, very difficult time. My heart goes out to them, and I am very PROUD of them all. But, that's NOT what this is about; not for me, at least. There is no hate, no fear whatsoever of trans people or people that are different from me. This is about the basic objective truths that underpin any just, civil society.

is deserving of all the compassion and care our understanding allows. That is not the same as "gender is non binary" (clinical psych, actual testing, says otherwise), and certainly is not the irrational claim that identifying as a non existent gender is a basis for ignoring biology.

The OP was about dwarfs being used in a Disney film with two different opinions.

Where did I say I liked it or not? You don't have to be so defensive, it's okay you took it that direction, but you have to admit it's a bit random.

which is really an evil and anti-human ideology that teaches reality is whatever you want it to be. We've been following along with this bullsh*t for decades now and it has reached it's predictable climax. Hopefully it will fall off a cliff here soon.

Nobody. That's the point. My point (I started the thread) has ZERO to do with Trump (Dear Leader). Even if it did, by showing that Trump was bad too would in no way invalidate my point that progressive wokes like Dinkface are hypocritical ######.

One can assign the redefinition of truth to whomever one
Jan 29, 2022, 1:06 PM
|
|
likes, as long as we recognize that it is happening. Has happened. You are trying to reframe the OP point, but we're not going to do that.
The one recognizing, say, an attempt to legitimize adultery is not claiming innocence of it. The one recognizing that decriminalizing shoplifting merely creates more shoplifting is not claiming purity under the law. I understand you do not see the distinction, but we do, so we are not going down the whatabout road.
Yes, elimination of objective truth as an ideal is a goal of the left. They're the ones saying so. The idea that truth is relative, humanly created, has always been a tenet of the left. We are discussing a current application of it.

I hope you realize the series of events described in the article has nothing to do with politics. Instead, this is a series of arguments between a group of self-absorbed arrogant parties (both sides).
It’s unlikely this issue would’ve seen the light of day pre-Internet. Move on or …….. worry about how Disney makes and markets their content.
