They are not insulting the player, they are insulting Dabo’s roster strategy. The general assumption is you can find a four star player in the portal for the same position that could add more value to the team.
It seems like we’re “settling” more than in the past.

flips from lesser programs over the years. Quiet killers stalking around until the last moment, not alerting other programs, then plugging in key future components there at the end if the space is available.
On what planet does a 4-star one-and-done portal transfer, who could well be riding the bench behind our already stocked position there, make more sense than a 4-5 year potential dude who was flying under the radar?

Mukuba was expected to turn pro and is only playing another year because of his draft grade. That is, if he still doesn't declare in January. His slot was accounted for with the other safety commits. Might have more to do with Mickens.

Why would Dabo want a portal player at safety when we have significant talent and depth there now? Opting to plug an under-the-radar up-and-coming freshman in the slot instead that can develop into the role later is somehow a questionable move?

The portal lovers want 4-star transfers to come in for depth, and that’s not typically the way it works. We’re not looking fur a starter and to push a guy down the pecking order.
The portal is not building the great teams.

I am impressed by his tape. Looks like he like to hit! As an old defensive ball coach I like what I see in the kid. Worth a chance . Stars are good but all four and five stars done pan out sometimes.
