it is estimated John Wayne smoked over 1 million cigarettes

in his life, according to the "Autopsy" show last night. Smoked 5 packs a day for over 30 years. His kids say he lit one match a day, first thing in the morning. He lit every other cig with the one he was finishing up. 100cigs/day x 365 x 30 = 1,095,000. Da-yum.
Drank at least four glasses of liquor a day too. His favorite drink was Sauza Conmemorativo Tequila. On the rocks.
But he died of stomach cancer in 1979, not lung cancer.
He had lung cancer in 1964 and had half a lung removed, but he still continued to smoke afterwards.
He also did a movie in the Utah desert in the 1950s where they had done atomic bomb testing ("The Conqueror"). 90 of the 200 people who worked on that movie set got cancer.
How The Duke lived 72 years is pretty amazing when you figure in these facts.

is that assuming a 12 hour day for back of the envelope purposes, that's lighting a new cigarette every 7.2 minutes.
I mean, that's like breathing, or something.

Never was a huge John Wayne fan. Liked a lot of his movies but he was never the main attraction for me. 100% agree with you on Rooster Cogburn.

The Searchers is hot garbage. Beautiful cinematography, but the plot is quite non-sensical.

Rio Bravo, El Dorado and Rio Lobo - same plot.
Not a fan of JW either. True Grit was probably my favorite, but I like the latter version better.
