I know Dabo likes to build depth but we need to destroy

teams the rest of the season and hope someone from big 12 and pac conference champions loses. With no ranked teams to play we have to win with style points and hope maybe NCST and ACCCG game opponent ends up ranked when we play them.
Unless UGA or Bama craps the bed, the SEC should have 2 undefeated (maybe top 2) teams playing for the SEC championship leaving them with a great shot with 2 teams in with UGA victory over us. Ohio State will more than likely walk in leaving only 1 more spot. Unless big 12 and pac both have 1 loss champions, we may be on outside looking in. I see no scenario where an undefeated conference champ is out. I feel confident pac champion will have 1 or more losses but Oklahoma's schedule is favorable with exception to the Texas game.

I don’t see the Georgia team that I watched Saturday night going undefeated! Do you?

Have you seen their schedule?

Who are they losing to? And a 12-1 SEC runner-up UGA with a loss to Bama in Atlanta is going to get in over Clemson basically every time.
I know Kirby has been known to have that slip up moment a la SCAR 3 years ago but their offense is going to improve as they get their receiving options back and not having to play Clemson's defense.

A Georgia team coming off a loss would NOT go in over a 1-loss ACC champ who has won 12 straight, including the conference championship.

They beat us head to head on a neutral field

That's a pretty good trump card. I think they would almost certainly get in ahead of us and there would be alot of public outrage if they didn't. Just imagine the roles reversed.. how would Clemson fans feel about the situation?

UGA has the H2H win, so if Clemson looks pedestrian for the rest of the year but wins out and UGA's only loss is to #1 Bama then UGA gets in over Clemson 10 times out of 10.

maybe regular season, their schedule isn't that daunting

They still don't have the offensive talent to beat Bama. Unless Bama gets bit by covid or injury bug, they are in a class by themselves this year.

has beat what we hope is a 1 loss Clemson team they would definitely get in too. The only way we would beat a 1 loss UGA team is if Bama just destroyed them and we roll the rest of the season. We cant have any close wins, we would have to be just dominant. Even then UGA would have head to head even if it was week 1

Then that doesn’t say much for our performance against them. We’ll probably lose another game or two with that logic.

to be a true challenge. I watched most of that USF game and don't see them being able to score on Clemson and they don't have the DL to generate the kind of pressure UGA did without blitzing.
USF had a lot of receivers running open that the QB just didn't have the skill to hit.

Don't you think we should worry about beating the teams on our schedule first. The offense I saw Saturday couldn't beat the school of the blind on their best day. And for the record, Georgia is not much better.

That was literally the opening line of the post, beating the teams on our schedule.

at worst the 3rd best defense in the country (some order of Bama, Clemson, UGA being the obvious 3 IMO) so that has to be factored into the equation.
Wholeheartedly agree that the offense looked terrible. From QB taking too long to process to dumb/predictable playcalling to terrible protection to terrible separation from receivers even to the body language of the team. It was also the first game for a new QB filling the shoes of one of the best college QB's ever with a rebuilt (and young) OL, a receiving corps that did not spend a ton of time together in live practices in camp (Ross just cleared, Ngata missing a lot of time, Spector + Stellato missing time, etc) and without one of the best safety valve RB's in ACC history.
It is a reasonable conclusion that the offense has the potential to take some major strides as the season goes on and playing against lesser competition. Will that growth be enough to make it a championship caliber offense? I have my doubts but I think it will be much better in late December than it was Saturday night.

Sorry but I am a 70 years Clemson fan and if the Big 12 Champion has 1 loss, they will have a much more attractive record than we do unless VT, VA or Pitt is undefeated. Oklahoma and Iowa State will likely both be in the top 10 and the winner will be tough to keep out if they only have 1 loss. Good thing is there is a bunch of games to play.
