Those were interesting articles. I understand why Slurrier went to SCAR after reading it all. All Dabo has to do is to win and the Ole Booze Coach will self destruct there.

When it comes to Slurrier, to know him is to hate him.
Give him enough rope and he will hang himself and offend everyone around him.

Ha ha riiiiiiight. This is the gamecocks we're talking about. He probably had no spine and had to endure that humiliation like their AD Tanner did about the drunken video.

Is this lack of institutiuonal control? Penn State deja vu?

When a football coach can control what a sport's writer can write about and can get a TV show pulled from being broadcast, we have a BIG problem. The coach has way too much power. He has violated someone's freedom of speech.

What trophy do they have for their winnings?

National championship? SEC championship? BCS bowl? Hell, what BCS bowl has he went to there?
He has won games, but nothing meaningful. I guess winning at scar is defined a little different than it is most other places that have actually WON!

John Wooden was pure class - Spurrier is pure ####

Everyone respected coach John Wooden because he was pure class. They may have hated those UCLA teams for always winning, but they respected coach Wooden.
The same cannot be said for coach Spurrier. It is not about the winning. People hate him because he is an ####. Just ask the cubby banker who is/was a huge Gamecock fan. I suspect he is still a Gamecock fan, but no longer a fan of Spurrier.
Debate that!

Wooden orchestrated many "extra benefits" for the best recruits in the country going as far back as Gail Goodrich's time. UCLA rolled out a lot more than the red carpet for Lew Alcindor (later Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) to get him off the mean streets of NYC. All of this has been well documented. That of course doesn't mean Wooden wasn't respected, but he cheated better than most---and as racist as it sounds, sex with white girls was one of the inducements for some of the black players who eventually signed with the Bruins. Now we all know that unc was cheating their azzes off as far back as Dean Smith's tenure--the tarholes "lilly-white" reputation has turned out to be a huge lie as well.
You're also right about Spurrier. He's an ### and has always been an ###

The true measure in his success at South Carolina is that he elevated the program. He has built a consistent winner, he brought in better players and he is beating teams that historicly owned South Carolina. He may not win an SEC championship because the other teams are just that much better but he has us in the hunt. There are more teams in the championship picture every year from the SEC than any other conference and the SEC has won the last seven. Alabama will always outrecruit the others and getting to the national championship game goes through Ala LSU, Georgia, Florida, Texas A&M not an easy task. If you add Clemson to the mix and it just makes it an impossible task. Spurrier is still a great coach, but he raised South Carolina's football program at the same time the others in the SEC went a step farther.

I had a conversation with some coots about these articles. They are in denial. Apparently winning is all that matters to them. To them Ron Morris is a liar and Spurrier has a right to control a press conference.

like you are a little intimidated by them, and you don't even face them but what, 2 times every 7 years or so. the 'ol drunken sack has not won anything of any consequence, and these 10-11 win seasons have came when the sec east is at their weakest in years. uf is just now starting to get back, tenn. is still way down, uk, and vandy just suck. heck, even clemson is just now starting to get a little swagger back.

Here's more info on Spurrier's personality disorder
Oct 5, 2013, 8:03 AM
|
|
I'm no phychologist but I've come to know one or two of these types. Outwardly they appear very confident but, underneath that veneer is typically a very fragile ego that will pack up and go when the chips are down. As soon as their ego stops getting stroked, they're gone.
Narcissistic Personality Disorder
Narcissistic Personality Disorder is a pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behavior), need for admiration, and lack of empathy, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by five (or more) of the following:
Narcissistic personality disorder symptoms may include:
Believing that you're better than others Fantasizing about power, success Exaggerating your achievements or talents Expecting constant praise and admiration Believing that you're special and acting accordingly Failing to recognize other people's emotions and feelings Expecting others to go along with your ideas and plans Taking advantage of others Expressing disdain for those you feel are inferior Being jealous of others Believing that others are jealous of you. Trouble keeping healthy relationships Setting unrealistic goals Being easily hurt and rejected Having a fragile self-esteem Appearing as tough-minded or unemotional
Although some features of narcissistic personality disorder may seem like having confidence or strong self-esteem, it's not the same. Narcissistic personality disorder crosses the border of healthy confidence and self-esteem into thinking so highly of yourself that you put yourself on a pedestal. In contrast, people who have healthy confidence and self-esteem don't value themselves more than they value others.
When you have narcissistic personality disorder, you may come across as conceited, boastful or pretentious. You often monopolize conversations. You may belittle or look down on people you perceive as inferior. You may have a sense of entitlement. And when you don't receive the special treatment to which you feel entitled, you may become very impatient or angry. You may insist on having "the best" of everything — the best car, athletic club, medical care or social circles, for instance.
But underneath all this behavior often lies a fragile self-esteem. You have trouble handling anything that may be perceived as criticism. You may have a sense of secret shame and humiliation. And in order to make yourself feel better, you may react with rage or contempt and efforts to belittle the other person to make yourself appear better.

I am a longtime member of tnet and the one thing that always happens is you say South Carolina's rise happened when the SEC east was down, yet we beat Clemson by double digits each of those years but accomplished nothing. That makes no sense unless you say your program is down as well. I understand it's a rival and you hate us but to skew the facts also makes your position weaker. Just hate......and let the facts speak for themselves. South Carolina is not there and until Clemson proves otherwise, they aren't either.
