Is it like youtube, that the more followers you have the more (or any) many you make?
Ex: The Kardashian klan of gashes: They probably have like a billion people following them. Do they get paid by the head for that kinda thing?
If not, why do folks seem so concerned with how many people are following them?

companies pay you for advertising their crap. That is what it is all about, becoming an influencer then getting companies to pay you to pimp your stuff to your followers.
Let's say Ineligible user® has 550,000 followers on Instagram and lots of "engagement" with each post about driving his golf cart down to a bar and listening to music and drinking lagers (side note, you are living my dream), a Golf Cart Modification Company might send you some sweet rims for your golf cart for free as long as you shout them out in some posts. THEN, when you get 2.6M followers, maybe Miller Lite pays you $5k for every post you make about heading down to a bar in your tricked out golf cart to drink hella Miller Lites.
Then you get 100M followers and every post is an advertisement for something or multiple things and you are making money just getting drunk and using your phone.
