Let me get this straight....

Dec 28, 2021, 4:10 PM

Correct me if I'm missing something.

We're canceling bowl games, costing fans and communities and schools hundreds and thousands and maybe millions of dollars, because players/coaches are testing positive for something that is not making them sick or symptomatic so that they won't cause anyone else to test positive who likewise won't be sick or symptomatic? People who are testing positive for the least harmful variant yet?

This omicrom variant is the least harmful, but the most contagious - I get that. But why are we trying to keep people from getting something that won't hurt them or anyone else??

Are ANY of these kids on ANY of these teams symptomatic? Are any reporters trying to delve into that and see? Or are they just positive tests and we're trying to prevent more positive tests, even as we're testing more frequently?

This is the Stupidest. Thing. Ever.

Once they have symptoms they test them...

Played all year and now it is an issue, but yes you are correct.

Here's an article I found on a quick search

Dec 28, 2021, 4:15 PM

"According to Cal Athletic Director Jim Knowlton, 99.5% of players are vaccinated but everyone had to submit to a COVID-19 test, whether they showed symptoms or not.

"Knowlton explains, “We had one person that was symptomatic and then we contact traced and anybody who was asymptomatic then was tested.”

at some point this virus is going to have to be

Dec 28, 2021, 4:16 PM

treated like the flu where sever cases tend to be the focus..while other mild cases are just treated as the flu or cold..sadly though reading on twitter i dont think some ever want this thing to end

This is a silly premise. No one knows for sure how the virus will affect them until that have the misfortune of contracting it. So to say that these people won't get sick or be affected negatively is misguided.

Is it a bad situation for fans, absolutely. I feel sorry for people who paid money and took time away from other things to plan to watch their team. I hope that people had travel insurance, but I know it's unlikely - I know I've only purchased it once in my life. In a perfect world, these people would be compensated for money spent.

With all that being said, omicron from what we now know may be the least dangerous variant, but is there anyone that actually WANTS to get it? Doubtful. The people in charge making the decisions to cancel are probably doing so with their organizations best interest.

Only virus in history where the focus is on positive tests and not cases. And these tests are WAY too sensitive and administered WAY too often.

I think we will look back in a few weeks or months and find these precautions were overkill. However, what we are doing now is logical with regard to trying to prevent larger outbreaks. We also have to consider that although it is waning, Delta is still out there…there is still a certain amount of CYA with regard to liability going on as well.

So stupid to cancel all these games over something they'll eventually get and not even know anyway

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agreed. What makes it so absurd is nobody is

Dec 28, 2021, 5:14 PM

concerned about the tens of thousands of fans in the stadiums, but when it comes to the 200 or so staff and players that’s a big no-no to play if a player gets Covid? I’ve been against the Covid deniers and anti mask people all along but this is getting f’ing stupid.
