Cam Newton

Jan 28, 2016, 8:34 AM

http://mweb.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/25464237/cam-newton-im-an-african-american-qb-that-may-scare-a-lot-of-people

Like he says in the article, "true fans know what's up"... You don't have to be a true fan of Cam Newton to respect him, you just have to be a true fan of GREATNESS. Everyone loves Brady, Manning, Brees, Rodgers, etc... But for some reason it's hard to love Cam Newton.. I'm not saying because he's a black athlete is the sole reasoning of the hate he receives. But it damm sure is a factor behind some of the comments and opinions.

Look, we all have our different opinions on things, and I respect that. But to hate, not just a great guy, but a great athlete, a great ambassador of The City of Charllotte. A guy who fed 900 kids on thanksgiving, to hate another man like that is simply ridiculous. I think some of us Clemson fans specifically hates him because of his time at Auburn...

Take away the dancing, the way he plays, some of the things he says... Take away all of that, and then judge him for what kind of guy he is. Is he still that "arrogant, show boating thug" who's not humble? Or is he Cameron Newton, a man who has worked for everything he has, a 25 year old MVP candidate, a NFL quarterback who's playing in his first Super Bowl?

I was starting to kind of like him....

Jan 28, 2016, 8:37 AM

until he brought up the race crap

Its not BS, it's facts

Jan 28, 2016, 8:46 AM

All you have to do is go to his Twitter mentions, you will the racial remarks coming from a certain ethnicity.. I gotta screen shot in my phone right now, were its like 10 guys calling him a "thug" or even worse, the N word...

It's not the only reason why he receive hate man, but you cannot deny rasicm is apart of it. You might not feel that way, but there are some people in America that feel that way about him.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dood, its Twitter

Jan 28, 2016, 9:04 AM

There are over 6 billion people on planet Earth, and any single one of them can go on twitter and call him horrible things and say whatever they want. That does not make an accurate assessment for what the general population thinks of Cam

Just because a few ignorant bigots throw crap around on the internet does not mean that everybody is rasist and afraid of what Cam stands for

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Dood, its Twitter

Jan 28, 2016, 9:09 AM

I'm pretty positive it's more then just a "few people on Twitter" that feel that way about him and call him the N word.. Just because you don't see it or hear everyday, doesn't mean it's not true. But you do have your own opinion

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You used "at least 10 posts on twitter" as your measuring stick

Jan 28, 2016, 9:14 AM

Hardly an accurate representation for the 400 million people in America.

Sorry, but Twitter just isnt a reliable source. More often than not, people will go on there simply to spew negativity and stir things up.

You are entitled to your opinion as well, such as "pretty positive its more than a few people on twitter." Well yeah, obviously, the world is full of hate and racism. I do see it every day. But it is a very (very) small minority and unfortunately, that's what gets all the publicity and attention

I, for one, am happy for anyone who is able to....

Jan 28, 2016, 9:04 AM [ in reply to Its not BS, it's facts ]

Make a better way for themselves in life, regardless of race.

Admittedly I have not seen these racist comments( N word is inexcusable, although I reject Sherman's adoption of "thug" as a racist term). I know there are a lot of idiots in this world.

With the cry of racism that is so prevalent today, in many cases where it doesn't apply, people have grown tired of hearing it. Aesop's "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" applies here.

However, hearing that he is regularly being called the N word on social media helps me understand why he might feel this way.

It's just wrong some of the things that's said about him... It means a lot to me, that's why I take up for him so much.

It's sad rasicm has leaked into sports. It's 2016, people should look past all of that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Exactly, especially Cam

Jan 28, 2016, 9:07 AM

He blames people not liking his antics on racism, and thats bs

Personally, I don't care for his showboating. It's not because I am racist, I just don't prefer that type of attitude.

That being said, Cam is a boss and is allowed to do whatever the hell he wants on the football field, and props to him for not being afraid to be himself

But to say that his race is the reason for the hate he gets just isnt entirely true

Hey man, we all have our opinions and out looks on things. I respect everything you've said and I appreciate an actual discussion on this thread.

And Franc, I absolutely agree with you on that post.

I agree, except the end when you say

Jan 28, 2016, 8:39 AM

"Take away the dancing, the way he plays, some of the things he says..."

Thats like saying "Mike Vick is a good guy and role model minus the whole dog thing and drug arrests and other off-field issues"

But seriously, I had a hard time liking the guy after all his college scandals, even though he grew up just a few minutes down the road from me. (plus beating Clemson didnt help.) but I have grown to admire him as a person and respect him as a great QB

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He has had a great season. He also has done a great job

Jan 28, 2016, 8:39 AM

repairing his image. He's had to dig himself out of a hole because of his behavior at Florida and rumors of a payoff from Auburn. Good for Cam that he has been able to overcome the negativity and has become a good, solid NFL QB. Bring that Super Bowl home to Charlotte !

Re: He has had a great season. He also has done a great job

There was a payoff. It was no rumor. The NCAA just let it slide

Re: Cam Newton

Jan 28, 2016, 8:51 AM

Sounds like he is a racist deep to the core. If you have to bring it up, then it sounds like it's a problem with THAT PERSON, not everyone else. Drawing the race card on everything has been tired for a while now. Black people need to just stop that chit and move on, like the rest of us. Why can't we all just get along?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Cam Newton

Jan 28, 2016, 8:57 AM

Not just black people ST.. EVERYONE has to stop the bs, but clearly it'll never happen! Don't just single out one group dude, that's the problem right there!

He's a "racist deep"because he answered a question? They asked him a question, and he gave an answer. It's FACTS man, nothing more nothing less.. He's not speaking about every non-black person that's racist towards him. He's only speaking on the people that's actually being racist. If you're not racist towards him, then it shouldn't matter, right?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Have you seen what people have been saying about him?

Jan 28, 2016, 10:59 AM [ in reply to Re: Cam Newton ]

Go take a look and then tell me that it's not racial with many/most of the haters. Also, he's not the one bringing it up, he's responding to questions...

That said, I never really liked him because of his college days and the money scandal but have to respect the talent.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Worked for everything he has gotten ? Including the bag

Jan 28, 2016, 9:09 AM

full of money that he got from auburn ?

Hard work carrying that bag around.

He has earned the accolades for his play on the field - amazing athlete that wins every where he goes.

The rest - - ehhhhhh . . . .

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

Re: Worked for everything he has gotten ? Including the bag

Jan 28, 2016, 9:15 AM

Yes, he has worked for every last single dollar he has.. He was never charged with taking improper benefits at Auburn. That's all speculation. I do feel like he has made tremendous strides since that situation, I think we should all look past that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Worked for everything he has gotten ? Including the bag

Jan 28, 2016, 12:06 PM

Speculation? True, HE never was proven to have taken money, but the NCAA did prove that his father accepted 200 grand from an Auburn booster. Because Aubie was playing for the national title that year, the NCAA loopholed it claiming that while his dad took the money, Scam had no knowledge of the payment thus keeping him eligible. Scam is a great athlete and a wonderful entertainer, but he should have been given the same treatment Reggie Bush was given (forfeiture of Heisman, etc).

Is it OK if I think these things?:

Jan 28, 2016, 11:19 AM

1) He deserves the NFL MVP trophy this year.
2) He is an incredible athlete and the hottest thing going in the NFL right now.
3) Apparently he does a good bit of charitable work in the community.
4) The handing footballs to kids after scores is pretty neat.
5) I think he has grown and matured some since college.
6) His dad shopped him around to recruiters and delivered him to the highest bidder, Auburn.
7) Cam knew his dad did this.
8) For whatever reasons the NCAA looked the other way on it, but did rewrite their regulations to specify that a parent qualified as an agent. In other words, for everyone after Cam, don't do what Cam's dad did.

Can I think those things or am I a racist for thinking them?
