Instant National Championship reactions?

Apr 2, 2017, 10:12 PM

Curious, and I apologize in advance if this has been posted before, but I was talking to a buddy of mine and telling him about my immediate reaction to the Hunter Renfrow catch/title victory. I ran up and down my street (middle of the city) and screamed GO TIGERS at the top of my lungs. Granted it was about 1AM so I definitely woke some neighbors, but most of them know my love for Clemson anyway due to the oversized flag out front.

That got me thinking, what was everyone's immediate reaction to that catch and the title win? Hoping for some exciting and funny stories!

Heard the mormon family down the street light off fireworks.

Apr 2, 2017, 10:17 PM

that is the only way I knew the game was on or over...

Was watching a rerun of Dexter at the time. Much more entertaining to me.

Go Tigers!!!

Apr 2, 2017, 10:30 PM

I made it a point to watch it with my dad. I could of hung out with some fellow Clemson friends, drank some beer, had some low country boil and had a good time...but my dads getting up there in age and I wanted to cherish a memory of just me and him (a DIE HARD Tiger) kicking back and watching the biggest Clemson game in my life time. We both were pretty speechless at the end...we gave each other a smile and a subtle high five...you could see the joy bursting from within him. He had a smirk on him for quite some time :)

Same here. Except both of my kids were asleep. I remember jumping out of my chair with a sort of quiet yell. And then hit the floor on my knees with both arms up in the air just staring at the tv with my jaw dropped and in disbelief. I think I did that for about 10 minutes and finally stood up and watched tv till about 2:30. One of the best nights of my life.

Sitting on the Bama side.....

Apr 2, 2017, 10:58 PM

Such a tense 2 minutes that when Hunter caught the pass my first thought was " well that was easy" in disbelief. The stadium erupted as loud as I have ever heard. Just hugged my family and my extended Clemson family. There was a ton of us over there.

Because I was screaming and hollering my wife started screaming and hollering and jumped in my lap.

My wife is from the Dominican Republic and can't tell a football from a pumpkin.

But she got happy and excited because at the moment, it seemed like the right thing to do.

I do love that woman! :)

along with innumerable high-fives as we took over the stadium, while the Bammers quickly disappeared (most had left with 0:01 left)

Watched all the trophy stuff on field, and soaked it up until they ran us out of the stadium.

Greeted the team at the hotel when they finally arrived. A cherished night indeed.

Slept about 2 hours, got in the car and drove back to SC.
With a smile on my face the entire way.

Emotional floodgates...

Apr 3, 2017, 9:26 PM

...burst open. After following the ins and outs, ups and downs of Tiger Football for 42 years it was SO emotional that yells, shouts, laughs and tears all happened at once... As schedule would dictate, I was watching alone this year, and it was just as well. I was able to let it all out however it arrived.

Watching the final touchdown still brings a lump in the throat and sweaty eyes...I imagine it will for the rest of my life.

TRUTH!

Apr 4, 2017, 7:53 AM

My wife was half asleep on the couch(meds for the flu) and had her eyes closed when it happened. She swore I said, "Oh sh-t they won." in a deadpan whisper, then a second later screamed the same words in a voice that could be heard half a mile away.
My daughter was sitting at a bar a bar in Atlanta. She had not been able to watch any Clemson game in real time all season because her work and school schedule wouldn't allow her to watch. The only one she had seen in real time was Pitt, so she felt she was a jinx, but she just had to watch. The first two touchdowns were scored while she was in the bathroom. A bunch of Clemson fans in the bar bought her free drinks if she would keep her head down after she told them she was a jinx. She could only hold her head up and drink during commercials for the whole fourth quarter. She would hear them cheering, and try to peek, but a guy came up next to her and made her keep her head down. She only got to see the onside kick because a lot of fans thought the game was over. The guy beside her gave her a big smooch and told the bartender that her tab was on him the rest of the night, she had just won him $5000 by keeping her head down till Clemson won!

I decided to not attend the big party viewing of the game since it didn't work for us the season before. I watched the game with my brother, mom, dad, and best friend. All die hard Tigers. When Watson made the throw to Renfow, we all came out of our seats and kind of hit our knees at the same time. I looked around the room as all of us went from being on the floor to jumping up and down in a group hug, screaming. We then drove around the downtown circle blasting the Tiger rag at 1:30am.

I'll never forget it. Both my parents who attended CU in the early 70s cried a little. It was awesome.

Re: Instant National Championship reactions?

Apr 5, 2017, 2:10 AM

I watched the Game at my parents house with my Mom, Dad, Brother & My 3 year old Son Maverick. We live in Northeast North Carolina. I have an emergency response job and that was the week we got hit with the worst Ice storm that this area has seen since at least the 90's. I barely got off in time to see the Game and I was dead tired from pulling 13 hour shifts 3 days in a row, with what wound up being another 3 days of 12 hour shifts to follow that. I remember I kept getting Charlie Horse Cramps in my right leg during the first half. I took my little Guy next door at the end of the 3rd Quarter so my Wifey could put him to bed and then I rushed back for the start of the 4th Q. (It was already way past his normal bedtime.) And what an absolutely magnificent 4th Q and finish it would be!!! At the time of that last play we were all so nervous & jittery!! We were all on the edge of our seats when Watson took that Epic last Snap and it seemed like it was happening in slow motion! As the play started to unfold we were pointing and gasping for breath as you could see what was happening, and when the pass from DW4 connected with HR in the end zone that house erupted. We all leaped 2-3 feet in the air and started yelling, huging, and high fives were aplenty!!! It was utter and complete Euphoria & Ecstasy!! Then I saw Dabo tackled on the Ground and I was just overcome by emotions like never before over a ball game. I'll always cherish that night with them. I went home and watched replay after replay and interview after interview until 4:00 a.m. I got about 2 hours of sleep and was back at work at 7. Man was I running off fumes that Tuesday. I drank 2 energy drinks (something I never do) and listened to Fox Sports radio talk about Clemson-Bama all day long in my work truck and never lost a smile. I will never forget it. The Untamed Clemson Tigers on an Unforgettable night were Undeniable, Undisputed National Champions!! :)

in a large city. This Clemson club like so many others we have in the nation was a microcosm of all of you fans who attended the natty game. We all booed when Spurrier came out. We all cheered together when our players did well. The bar we were in was packed and loaded. When Hunter caught that last touchdown, I thought that bar was going to f-ing explode. Longest sustained cheer, screaming in memory. Going nuts! I hug so many guys and girls that night I think they are going to have to ban me from a couple of restrooms.
