Depth at center -- worst of the Dabo era?
Nov 10, 2020, 9:43 AM

Stewart (walk-on) / Trotter (2*) / Rayburn (3*)
Stewart's a liability up front, point blank. The OL as a unit has underwhelmed, but as the anchor, he has been especially bad. I wanted him to shine because he's a local kid, but it just isn't happening. ND exposed him time and time again, and it will only continue as we push into December and beyond.
Linthicum can't get here soon enough.

O-Line is the hardest to get a true evaluation on and Center is the hardest position on the o-line.

seem to get it done, why are we struggling so bad that a walk-on is starting on our OL? Any other playoff teams sporting walk-ons starting on the OL?

after you see Stewart getting up off his butt after a run play, take a drink. You'll be smashed by the 2nd quarter.
They have got to make a change there and at left guard, IMO.

So does Dabo go over to the far right or far left to get a center? Dang, I've been watching too much political television.

volunteering to play center. Probably the least glamorous position on the team, outside of long snapper. But, one of the most important as well.

The 2022 commit from Greenville said he’d play center and he’s a tackle prospect.

highly ranked our classes have been, whoever the recruiting coordinator was a couple of years ago really dropped the ball on OL, DL and S...Not to mention our lack of diversity among our WRs recruits...We essentially only signed 9 men and neglected the other two WR positions...The worst part is that by the time we get the OL shored up, DJ will be gone

It’s pretty bad this year for some reason...It’s also a cause of lack of talent.
Brockhorst, Stewart, and Putnam are not good at all....A change needs to be made soon at LG and Center....We just don’t have the depth to do it.

I am in agreement that Cade is very weak at Center. Too bad Linthicum couldn't come earlier! That being said, if Stewart is so terrible than they should make a change and not sink the ship with this boat anchor! You don't realize how good something is until it's gone and our line last year was good. Travis can't have the season he had last year without his OL. This year he is having to struggle because the line is not producing like it should. It makes it seems as if it is ETN but it is the line that is terrible. If ETN even gets a crease, he is gone!!! He couldn't even get that against ND.

Agreed, if best truly is the standard, you can't settle for a center that gets consistently blown off his spot/pushed around when you're a team that prides itself on running the ball.

The future is bright but we need answers now

Stewart is definitely a liability right now. And Trotter and Rayburn are struggling. Our interior OL is not getting it done. But we have recruited really well the past couple years on the OL.
Bockhorst is supposed to be an answer on the interior for us. All we hear about are how solid he has become and how he brings a nasty streak to the OL. Hopefully that will be the case although it has not so far. I think he will still be a good one.
The staff has been excited about Rayburn and Putnam. Boating and Trotter were late cycle reached in the 2019 class. I haven't lost hope for those first two.
2020 was maybe the best OL recruiting class we have ever had. Trent Howard seemed a bit of a reach although people seem to be excited about his ability to play every position… and he would have been a solid OL addition any other year. But the other 5 OL from the 2020 class are cream of the crop. Parks is already a monster and Tchio is coming along. Tucker needs some time and hopefully Williams puts on some size. But the future is bright.
We have 3 really solid 2021 guys so far, including one of the best OC's in the country in Linthicum. And our 2022 OL class is off to a really good start as well.
We need some quick answers this year, but DJ and out RB room look to be well protected for years to come. It stinks we have subpar interior OL play right now though.
