Why commit to a school
Jun 6, 2018, 1:42 PM

Before you see all your possible options? I get some kids go off of impulse but some kids have their scheduled commitments and then 3 OV weeks or months afterwards, if you're still shopping for the best product I wouldn't stop shopping until I know what they all have to offer especially for the biggest decision of my life to that point.

The key word here is 'kids.'

I remember when I believed I'd find what I wanted then change my mind the next day. Compulsive behavior is intrinsic with most everyone during those years. New toys come and go due to lack of interest or more often we see something new and exciting.
There's also the character issue. Sometimes Dabo and staff find skeletons in a closet and pull the offer. With NCAA rules forbidding coaches to speak to the public about kids until they are signed we only ever hear what the kid has to say. If a school pulled your offer because of your misbehavior would you make that public?
Recruiting is a complicated process but Clemson seems to be doing as well as any and better than most.

Why enroll in school and practice with the team if you really want to play somewhere else. Kids these days. SMH

Kept pestering the kids family and you can define pestering any way you like as I'm being a little purposely ambiguous, feeling the kids head with negatives concerning his present decision and making "arrangements" to get the kid to transfer. There is also another influential party involved to the point if Lewisville gets another good player I'd save my time and effort recruiting unless he's incredibly committed to Clemson. I mean that kid will never know what it's like to wear the ring of a national champion. AS you said SMH right there with you.

I think some of it is impulse and some is pressure.

I think recruits have all kinds of input coming at them. And most coaches make hard pitches which often time include a pledge of commitment. Some kids want to please everybody so they say yes when they really aren’t sure.
I think that’s part of it at least. Southern culture in particular is prone to this as it is a passive culture.

Being a “soft Verbal” commit. Some were even called “Silent Commit” then they had some as “Solid Commit”. I remember when some players were soft verbals to multiple schools. Social media and various football related websites changed that. Nowadays it doesn’t matter if you get a scholly and commit on the dime. On Signing Day a school can turn their backs and say “your offer is not commitable now”. It has changed so much over 20 yrs.
