Projected Final FBS AP Poll
Jan 6, 2013, 6:27 PM

|
Here are my projections for the Final AP Poll:
1. Notre Dame (1) 2. Ohio State (3) 3. Oregon (5) 4. Alabama (2) 5. Georgia (6) 6. Stanford (8) 7. Texas A&M (10) 8. South Carolina (11) 9. Kansas State (7) 10. Florida (4) 11. Clemson (14) 12. Florida State (13) 13. Oklahoma (12) 14. LSU (9) 15. Louisville (22) 16. Utah State (18) 17. Northwestern (21) 18. Boise State (20) 19. Texas (NR) 20. Oregon State (15) 21. San Jose State (24) 22. Kent State (25) 23. Vanderbilt (NR) 24. Baylor (NR) 25. Michigan (19)
This projection assumes that Notre Dame successfully defeats Alabama in the BCS National Championship game. If Alabama were to win I believe the final AP Poll would look more like this:
1. Alabama 2. Ohio State 3. Notre Dame 4. Oregon 5. Georgia And So On...
However unlikely, AP voters could vote Ohio State to #1 in place of Alabama, simply because Ohio State would be the only remaining undefeated team in the country. I could see this happening if Alabama struggles, playing a sloppy game, and wins in the last few seconds. The more mistakes the 1 & 2 make in the title game the more likely it becomes that the AP could declare their own champion. If both teams play well then Ohio State will be relegated to the #2 spot or lower no matter who wins.
Well, there it is. Have at it. Let me know what you think, whether I am wrong or I am right. If you wish post your own final 25.
*** The above rankings do not reflect my own personal opinion, but rather the most likely outcome of the AP Poll, depending upon who wins the National Championship game.

I could see the Tigers jumping to 9, maybe wishful thinking.

It's more likely that we crack the top 10 in the coach's poll since tOSUisn't eligible.

Looks pretty fair to me, however, I don't think Oklahoma will stay that high or deserves to be that high. I will be surprised if they are in the top 16. Otherwise, pretty good to me.

the poll lost all credibility with Florida ahead of us.

THey stunk out loud and lost to Louisville... While a pretty decent team, Florida got embarrassed in a BCS game.

The only reason that I put Florida at the #10 spot is because I seriously doubt that they will fall more than 7 spots. They were ranked #3 at the last release of the AP Poll.
Even though they got beat handily by Louisville, I think voters will look at it more as though Louisville was better than we expected, and not that Florida is not as good as we thought. Also, Florida had one loss during the regular season, to Georgia, which means that if you look at the entire season as a body of work for the Gators, I think they will likely rank out ahead of us. Once again, this isn't my personal opinion on the rank of each team, but rather what I project the AP Voters will rank each team.
If you look at the AP Poll and its history with regard to top 5 teams that have lost to teams outside the top 15, you will find that more often than not they reflect favorably on the team outside the top 15 rather than negatively on the top 5 team.

I would like to think so myself. I tell you what, here are my personal final rankings, independent of any other polls:

I think you nailed our ranking, in light of the last weeks scores we will probably not crack the top 10

But that only effects the BCS and related polls. The AP pulled out of the BCS in 2004 leaving them free to do what they wanted as far as banned teams go. They're still out of the USA Today Coaches and Harris Interactive Poll.
