To account for Johnson, Koenning developed what he called a "Cover 21," in reference to Johnson's jersey number. Koenning devised this plan before the Tigers' 2005 game at Georgia Tech, when Johnson was limited to four catches for 46 yards. Koenning used the tape of that game, which Clemson lost 10-9, to tweak his creation.
It set up the next season's matchup, the only time in Johnson's pro or college careers he has been held without a catch.

out in front of the nation. We had Davis and Spiller and with that win it felt like we had big things coming, then Tommy Bowden happened again. Kind of a bittersweet memory considering how much we underachieved with two great backs.

I'll never forget the size of the crowd that showed up on Bowman for College Gameday. It was the first time they hosted the show from Clemson and I remember Fowler and Herbstreit being blown away by it. Awesome day, awesome game.

I'm still baffled as to why the QB (was it Reggie Ball?) didn't target Johnson more often in that game. I mean, even if he was covered like a blanket, isn't' that the types of catches Calvin Johnson has made his whole career?
I'm suspicious that our scheme/gameplan was the only thing keeping Johnson from catching balls that night considering the impact he's made. I'm glad we laid the beat down on them, though.

game, and we were able to do that because GT's other receivers weren't any good.
