tuba player sitting on the couch last night, packing up the bong fixing to fire up the sticks for some call of duty, and your section leader calls and says, "hey bro, we got this guy who the university is going to pay $100M that's arriving at the airport sometime between 9P and midnight. get your gear on so we can welcome him".
just insane to think about to me. cheerleaders, fans, bands, the stupid wagon...all at the airport waiting for a dude to get off of a plane....CFB has bout hit the point of ridiculous for me
these same ######## who got random kids to show up to welcome you with the red carpet will fire your ### on the tarmac for going 8-4.

furthering the ridiculous spectacle that has always been college football. When it loses the ridiculous, the bands, the babes, the beer bongs, that's when it will lose me.
Long live the ridiculousness that is college football.

the Jounge is way different haha. Clemson football undoubtedly brought the few dozen of us who frequent this place together, but I can say with 99% confidence that not many of us would be at an airport at 11:30 local time to welcome a new head coach...idk what my point is there, but I appreciate the irony in your post haha
not sure I'll be able to adjust to the notion of being a "true" fan over the next 2 decades. too much hassle, money and just over all ######## that lacks the overall sincerity it used to...at least from my perspective.

The ridiculousness of college football is the only reason

I watch. The NFL is way too corporate and polished. When CFB goes that way, it'll lose me.
Great things about college football:
1. Fanbase meltdowns 2. Crazy accusations (i.e. Newspring) 3. Recruiting 4. Fan reaction gifs 5. The spectacle of game day and everything being over the top

spiral and people haven't realized it yet. The crowds seem smaller, fans are less intense, overall I just see less enthusiasm around it. People are still going through the motions, but they don't mind missing a home game or two anymore, either. IMO the cost of it all had people trending away, and covid kicked that into high gear.
Maybe I'm wrong, that's just what I see around Clemson.

just like the NFL.
Ticket prices are getting to the point where, like the NFL, if you want a decent seat you better have some cash.

I've always suspected that eventually when we're back to 8-9 win seasons and not necessarily competing for the playoffs every year, the higher end crowd is going to fizzle away and they'll start to miss all of the poors they've run off over the years. Whether it was through higher prices, moving them from long time parking spots, or otherwise. We seem to lose a couple of tailgating regulars every year, these are people who have gone to every game for decades. Most of the younger crowd is way less into it.

the whole Covid thing coupled with RH Mom's inability to make it to games has certainly gotten ME personally to a place where it's not life or death to get to the game every week. I have a feeling I'll be pretty choosy about how I spend my fall weekends in the future. I took a few years off when I coached Joonyer in Fall League baseball and it didn't kill me missing out then either.

Certainly how I look at it. And if we start getting noon games on the regular again, sitting in traffic for 2 hours on Saturday morning definitely won't be very appealing.

Had 4 tickets forever. Stopped getting them when life kept me from getting to all but like 1-2 games per year. Then I decided I would just go to what I could and I'd have more money for doing that.
A few marquee away/neutral games, a few CFP games, and a few Natty trips later we climbed the mountain. And myfugging lord did I spend a lot chasing all of that.
My burning desire to invest the same time/money to catch games in person has eroded. When we were on our run, I was thinking I HAD to be there because it hadn't happened in my lifetime that I remembered.
The hunt sorta ended, time has become more scarce, and expenses to attend are downright disgraceful.

I stopped watching most sports the last couple years. I've tried to watch some here and there recently. Now, it just seems a little boring to me. I'm guessing I'm not the only one.

The amount of money involved because of the popularity of the sport does make the traditional stuff feel a little ridiculous, though
