Give Roy Williams a 5-year contract at Clemson and he's

forced into retirement before his contract is done.
Give Brad Brownell a 5-year contract at UNC and he wins the ACC 2-3 times during his stay.
UNC recruits for Roy (and any other coach they hire) while Clemson's history, tradition and lack of commitment recruits against Brownell and pretty much any other coach we hire).
That's pretty much the size of it.

I don't know that Clemson works against BB. Put him at a *slightly* better program historically, like say, Ga Tech, and I don't think he does much better recruiting than he does at Clemson. Sounds like KJ came here because of the ACC. May sound Cootish to sell players on our conference, but whatever gets good players in the door

any other ACC teams, and particularly ot by the Tobacco Road teams. That's just a fact. KJ may have come here because of the ACC, but he was not given a sniff by the team we played against tonight.

recruit for Guthridge? What about UK under Tubby Smith? You think he pulled in the same caliber of recruits as Calipari?
And how did Purnell manage to get full of guys that competed in the top 3rd of the ACC for 3-4 straight years? KJ McDaniels is the only guy on this team that would see the court on a couple of those OP teams. Booker, Rivers, Hamilton, Stitt, Mays, Young, Oglesby, etc are all better than anyone on this team not named KJ McDaniels.
The school only plays a part, the coaches absolutely make a difference when it comes to recruiting.

league qualifies as competing in the top third to me, especially when we were capable of playing with and beating just about anyone. Yeah we lost some heart breakers and blew some late leads and what not, but those teams were competitive with just about anyone in the league.
And FWIW i think Brownell proved that he could coach in his first season at Clemson when he took what was left here and went 9-7 and won a tournament game. The question with BB was always whether or not he could recruit well enough to stay competitive in this league and so far the answer has been no.
I'm not saying we should fire the man right now though.

More and more beans are spilling out of the UNC Can. This school thing is not quite over, in spite of Swoffie's and the old AD @ UNC.

The right personnel will build a winning program. When we get that profile of personnel and pay them what they are earning elsewhere, we will win. History has little to do with it.

I've not seen cheating by Billy Donovan. What I see is a coach committed to helping young men achieve.

There's plenty of elite basketball talent in Atlanta.

UGA has never been able to land any of it, and GT hasn't gotten much of it recently either. We're also rarely even in the mix for the elite players in our own state.
It's certainly not DC or Philly, but there's talent in a 100-150 mile radius around Clemson, we just don't get it.
