southerner who has lived in SC for 47 years now, this summer isn't that bad. I'd call it average really. We haven't hit 100 degrees yet. Humidity is the same as always, sticky. Not sure, maybe they can find places that had it hotter. Texas has been hotter than normal I hear. But me, nope.
I remember in 5th grade the average July temp in Columbia, SC was 99.5 degrees. The AVERAGE high. We had entire weeks over 100. And then in what, 2012 or 2013 we hit 111 degrees. That was hot.
Nope, this has been a relatively average summer. Maybe they can find some people elsewhere to complain.

My entire work career has been outside and totally weather dependent. This summer in SC has been very tolerable compared to some.

it started off cool, which was misleading. It warmed up a little late, but overall I'd call it average.

Telling leftists what they want to hear has nothing to do with reality. The last few years should have taught us all that beyond a shadow of a doubt.

I spent most of my boyhood in rural mid-state SC before moving to the N.East USA shortly before my FR year at Clemson a few decades ago.
Ditto to your experiences, at least as far as from back then.
From what I’ve been able to gather from friends and customers in the upstate and coast of SC (along with my personal experiences this spring & summer), this has been very much like how summers were back when I was a kid.
The Atlantic Coast going way north has also had an unremarkable summer, more like ~ 20 years ago than like those within the previous ~ 5 or 6 years.

Our highest electric bill was around $320.
Aug 20, 2023, 9:49 AM

What's odd is my parents, growing up in the 80's, had $400 and $500 electric bills in their house built in the early 70's, and had 1400 less square feet of house.
And between electricity and gas (heat), we have never had a combined energy bill over $400 since moving to this house in 2012.

Yep. They had massive electric bills.
Aug 20, 2023, 4:53 PM
|

And adjusted for inflation that's insane, back then. Think the house was like 2800 square feet, give or take. They had crap insulation and none in the walls as I recall. And none under the floors. They got a new unit (eventually) and added attic and crawlspace insulation and they went down some. New windows would also have helped greatly.

You might want to check your ducting to make sure it's not

leaking. I had the same issue (extraordinarily high power bills) and found that my air ducts had so many holes I was essentially cooling the attic and crawl space as much as I was the house. I fixed the ducting and my power bills returned to normal...

East Tejas and Louisiana will swelter. Still, in SC we will just have a regularly hot week, upper 90's a few days, maybe hitting 100.

July was a little lower on average than the last few summers, August has been higher on average compared to the last few summers.
(And I'm only comparing averages to one spot in SC)
Where were often seeing higher averages is night time lows, it isn't always day time highs.

Yes, SC has been spared from the worst this year.
And seeing signs of a "false fall" for most of SC on long range.
Thankfully I'm in the mtns now and no longer on the coast, i often enjoy no or low humidity. 😉

I'm one of those weather nerds. 😄
It will be bad but spared the worst.
I noticed the article you shared spoke about the Bermuda High, the heat and the potential increase in hurricanes.
But, failed to mention (unless I missed) that until the Bermuda High breaks down, the chances of a hurricane hitting is almost slim to none.
The tropics are heating up but the storms will be forced out to sea or around the Bermuda High.

proof of the climate crisis.
Seems to be there are at least two pieces of good news. 1) lakes that are super low will get filled up some and 2) doesn't the rain help the wildfire situation? Seems like it should.
But, I've heard no mention of either of these on any of the Climate Crisis TV channels.

Disregard the fact that 90% of Canadians
Aug 20, 2023, 10:24 PM

live within a hundred miles of the U.S. border. Disregard the likelihood that without the warming period preceding Michaels Mann's farcical 'Hockey Stick', 99% of Canadians would be living within a hundred YARDS of the U.S. border in one condominium complex strung out along the 49th parallel. The idea of natural climate variability is a hoax; a fallacy designed to lure people into a false sense of guiltlessness.
Don't give in to it.

Canada ain't exactly local there, sinner, but seeing as how you're so obviously enlightened eco-wise, please tell us, is 'natural climate variability' real, or just some right-wing jargon meant to excuse humanity's loathsome existence?

Sinner? lol ###? That's some culty behavior but ok.
> please tell us, is 'natural climate variability' real, or just some right-wing jargon meant to excuse humanity's loathsome existence?
Of course not, it's when you say things like "it's always been hot here" or "it snowed here, climate change lol" that you look silly.
Are you even aware that the global average temperature is steadily rising and is highly correlated with C02 in the atmosphere? This isn't hard, it really isn't
