Who is better next year - Clemson or Alabama?

Jan 2, 2023, 1:13 PM

Alabama took a step back this year, even though they had Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young at QB. They were a very good passing and scoring team with him. Now that Young has declared for the draft, who will be their QB next year? They signed the #9 and #11 QBs in this class. Jalen Milroe seems the likely choice.

I'll take Clemson to return to the playoffs while Alabama goes bowling.

Idk man Tnet said our players are mediocre

No perspective whatsoever. Strange group of people, for sure.

Our players aren't mediocre our coaches are. From strength and conditioning to our DC who until this year had zero on field coaching experience

Any other questions?

Re: Alabama

Jan 2, 2023, 1:23 PM [ in reply to Alabama ]

That answer is easy button. If sticking inside our Conference, with FSU burning up the portal - who will be better? Hopefully Clemson but the gap is closing fast.

2024 white level membermilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Geez, here we go again. The portal is

Jan 2, 2023, 1:31 PM

NOT a magic program builder. Teams like FSU, LSU, and USC have hit the portal hard because they have to.

We could use maybe some depth, but it's extremely hard to find kids quitting a non-starting spot for a depth destination elsewhere.

Some of you dudes really have a bizarre fascination with the portal. Who would you like to bench for a quitting, non-starting portal player? Please list names from both sides.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They got 1 TE transfer from Maryland and lost 13.

Jan 2, 2023, 1:25 PM [ in reply to Alabama ]

Is the TE that much of a difference maker?

Like where? Who?

Jan 2, 2023, 1:26 PM

Streeter isn't going anywhere, nor should he.

Goodwin is going nowhere, nor should he.

There may be some ancillary tweaks, but nothing more. I personally would like to see a new DB coach who can do more than recruit, I'd like to see a rebuilt S&C program, and I wouldn't mind Scott coming back to recruit and coach WRs, but otherwise we will ABSOLUTELY have the same OC and DC next year, as we should.

You gonna be okay with that?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I guess the TD means, "no"?

Jan 2, 2023, 1:35 PM

Thanks for the awesome discussion bud.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If you'll go back and look at your post you'll see it...

Jan 2, 2023, 2:41 PM

wasn't me who TDed you. I am insulted that you'd jump to that conclusion but should have know since you automatically assumed my comment about changes was directed as coaching changes.

You really ought to settle down and take an objective look around. Not everyone is against you, my brother.

You could have checked my pulse rate and seen that I'm not guilty of many TDs and I've been around quite a while now. The few I've passed out were to coots and fans of other programs who come in here sucking up and get a 100% pulse rate.

I TD them because it is unjust for my Clemson Brothers to have lower pulse rates than some coot, dog or fan who would see Clemson destroyed.

Re: Like where? Who?

Jan 2, 2023, 2:24 PM [ in reply to Like where? Who? ]

I agree that Streeter and Goodwin shouldn't go anywhere. I don't think either should have been given the position, but now that they are there they deserve a chance. Does this mean that Streeter and Goodwin do not need to make any changes? I'm hoping that they take the offseason doing a lot of film study and making a lot of changes.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

IDK, I'm not for firing anyone and you probably won't...

Jan 2, 2023, 2:36 PM [ in reply to Like where? Who? ]

see me ever call for a coordinator, coach or any of the staff to be fired. I'm not full of myself enough to think I'm qualified by experience or understanding to consider changes at any position.

I was thinking more about the replacements for the starters who left and how the new 5* QB works out. It's also inevitable that some of the younger guys will be better or worse than those who left.

I hope for a better year next season.

You’re not serious. This isn’t your actual opinion right? Both coordinators will back for sure. If you want to make an argument that Wes SHOULD be there’s a argument to be made. But there is zero argument to say streeter SHOULD be OC. What area specifically do you see him excelling at? Play calling? Scheming? Game planning? Player development? He’s lacking in literally every area

Re: Who is better next year - Clemson or Alabama?

Jan 2, 2023, 1:24 PM

ALABAMA. Basically because they have far better coaches and can actually develop players. I see us losing 2 games to either ND, FSU or SC, and missing the playoffs AGAIN. Without some major staff changes, Clemson’s playoff appearances are over until it expands to 12 teams. Even then with FSU getting better it’s going to still be tough to get in because you may not have that incredibly impressive ACC Championship to cling to.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ikr. We have bad players and bad coaches.

Jan 2, 2023, 1:37 PM

Obviously.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Jan 2, 2023, 1:26 PM

Have you seen annual recruiting rankings? They matter. I like Cade. But this team needs OL, DB, WR, and OC upgrades.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I did not realize that we typically out recruit Alabama.

Jan 2, 2023, 1:30 PM

I was under the impression that we almost always do not.

I do see that they have now lost at least 18 players to the portal from their 2021 team.

Re: Who is better next year - Clemson or Alabama?

Jan 2, 2023, 1:28 PM

I don’t think we could beat them H2H. They play a tougher schedule on average than we do and lost 2 games this year by a total of 4 pts. to currently ranked teams on the road. They recruit better than we do, cherry pick the portal for top end talent and have a coach that has won 7 natty’s. Advantage Bama, especially considering our JV staff and roster holes. Good news, we’ll have a great shot at winning the ACC.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Who is better next year - Clemson or Alabama?

Jan 2, 2023, 1:33 PM

Is this is a serious question?? Alabama lost 2 games on the final play. Definitely them. Saban would fire his mother if it made thr team better. He will hit the portal. Dabo won't get rid of his homeboys nor will touch the portal.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Who is better next year - Clemson or Alabama?

Jan 2, 2023, 1:37 PM

Unless they use the portal, I think 5 star Ty Simpson will be Bama's QB next year.
