brand new thing that just happened this week. It's not. He has talked about his faith, his relationship with God, and thus the central driving purpose of his program since day one. God is not a card Dabo plays. His faith is central to his life and defines who he is. You may not like that, nor agree with him. But, stop acting like it's a novel thing he pulled out of his back pocket. It is not. It has always been there and if you don't or didn't know that you haven't been paying attention.

Personally, I don’t think he’s using God as an excuse for God in his word tells us that we’re going to go through valleys and tribulations in difficult times. Because it is when we are in these valleys are difficult times that we need God the most. I think Debo is simply saying I don’t understand it. We don’t understand it but God may have allowed it to get our attention back on him. Bible says all good things come from God so God never does anything to hurt us or bring bad upon us. He may allow it just like he did job but Joe also said though he slayed me yet while I love him meaning he may allow this in my life, but still, he is more important than anything than a winning football program for a non-winning football program it’s that our focuses on him because heaven is eternal this earth passes away.

Like the passing of Charlie Kirk, how terrible how precious how heartbreaking. Jesus also is an example how terrible how precious of a man how heartbreaking it was to the disciples the God, the father allowed it and look how many people have come to no Christ because of his death And I believe millions are coming to Christ because of Charlie Kirk‘s death and his commitment to God, he said he wanted to be remembered for his courage to tell the truth and spread the gospel and he will be by God‘s grace. If you’re not a believer can you read this post today? Can be the day of salvation for you today can be the day that you accept Jesus, crisis, Lord and Savior to forgive you of your sinsand make him Lord. If you do so, please email me so that I might respond and encourage.

But an emoji best summed up my take on this Kirk hagiography. Failing that, I’ll just say that Kirk was racist, xenophobic, misogynistic, homophobic and made millions by attacking marginalized people. Those aren’t opinions, they are statements of fact—whether you choose to acknowledge reality or not. Christ would have treated Kirk just as he did the moneychangers in the Temple, and if you don’t believe that, I suggest you try reading Matthew, Mark, Luke and John for a change (although I get the distinct impression that evangelicals would rather avoid that part of the Bible).

I for one agree with all that you have said. Dabo has never hid his faith since he first arrived in Clemson. So many fans have not been listening and Dabo would never blame the problems with this team as something God did to punish. Trials and Tribulations are a part of your faith. Dabo believes you use them to learn. God will get you through them.

God doesn't take sides in sports. Dabo has to get with the times or Clemson will continue to fall. This season has been a complete disaster, the worse it gets the better for Clemson in the long run. Losing will force Dabo to change.

His approach and his decisions will change to address the needs of his program. But his faith will never change; it will continue to serve as his foundation and his platform to help change others.

This season has nothing to do with God and everything to do with a program that (a) doesn’t have the players and coaches it used to (b) is getting a little more competition from a conference that has been notoriously weak in recent years and (c) doesn’t seem to have an answer on how to get back to (a) in the new age of college football.

I am all for calling upon a higher power to get you through hard times. Without faith, it don’t know how people deal with all life throws at you. The problem is using God as an excuse for your poor performance. I saw this over and over in the business world. People playing the God card when called out for failing at their job. I thought Dabo was above this.

This really isn't hard.
"...we have underachieved. And that falls on me. I feel like I have let a lot of people down."
He is not blaming God. It's just simple English. What he is saying and him saying the blame is on him is quite clear.

No, but you gave me one sentence. I gave you paragraphs.

In my paragraph Dabo clearly says the fault falls on him.
Your one sentence was in a section where Dabo is talking about dealing with adversity in life. Here's the entire quote in context.
"I know God never says oops."
"This is a tough time, but a lot of great days [are] ahead," Swinney said. "Tough times make you appreciate the good ones even more. There'll be a lot of good ones, and I don't have any doubt this will make us all better.
"There's no quit in these guys. There's no quit in this staff."
Again: my quote, crystal clear: Dabo: "... we've underachieved and that falls on me." Clearly taking responsibility.
Your quote, "God never says oops." Nowhere in that line of text did Dabo say God is making us play poorly or that it is God's fault. You're just adding that meaning in on your own.

I agree with the OP; a lot of people have taken some words Dabo used and made up their own narrative. He never said this season is God's doing as some have suggested. His point is that his faith is the same, through the peaks of the championships and the valley of this season. Through it all, God will teach us, even with the pain of the season. His point is that it may be known now, or it may be a seed that has impact years ahead, but he remains faithful to our Lord in all times. Sad when people accuse a man of using his faith as a tool.

But it feels like Dabo is using "God's mysterious ways" to justify the poor start to the season, rather than talking about what he and his coaches can do better. I realize he's said that it is his responsibility to fix it, but that feels minimized when he mentions God 10 times in a press conference.
It feels like he is setting things up so that if people complain or question, they are questioning God or God's plan. That's ridiculous.

We'll just completely flush it and focus on what's in front of us and the opportunities we still have. I believe that God will use this in a mighty way."
"We'll just continue to help these players transform their lives. I don't know God's big picture plan, but he'll use this for good. I don't have any doubt about that. It might be 20 years from now. It might be a player saying this was the best thing that ever happened to him, and taught him a lot. I know God is at work here, and we'll use this opportunity to glorify him through this."
Sentence 1: we have underachieved. Translation. We have not lived up to the preseason hype or our own standards.
Sentence 2: It's my fault. No explanation necessary.
Sentence 3: I have let people down. Translation: I have failed our team and our fans.
Sentence 4: I still have faith.
2nd paragraph sentence 1: We (coaches will work to transform lives). Translation: You can win, win, win, but if you're not equipping young men to be great husbands, and fathers, you lose!". - Dabo Swinney.
The rest of paragraph 2: God builds character through trials. Our purpose is to glorify him.
Again, this is not new. This has been Dabo for the entire 18 years as our coach.

Yes, Dabo took responsibility and accepted blame.

He should have just left it at that, rather than mentioning God nearly a dozen times in the same press conference in a pathetic attempt to deflect blame.
Adding sayings like “God works in mysterious ways“ and “God never says oops“ do not help his case for taking full responsibility. Rather, those statements imply that God’s will is for Clemson football to struggle or underachieve. That’s ridiculous.
As usual, Dabo needs to learn when to shut up.

Doctor, believe it or not, and it’s up to you but God is in everything. He doesn’t push nor approve of sin but he’s there and sees it. He’s not surprised when man sins nor when our favorite team struggles(see oops). He uses opportunities like this to help us grow. Yes, tough lessons sometimes.
