There's a great story about Keith Moon, who I'm sure...

many know as the much ballyhooed drummer from The Who. If you don't know the Keith Moon stories, but do know the Joe Walsh ones, then think Joe Walsh on steroids. Keith was a notorious mad man, rock n roll bad boy and as Joe Walsh once said, "One of the most terrifying things that ever happened to me was that Keith Moon decided he liked me."
As the story goes, the band was on US tour heading to the airport and half way into an hour plus drive, Keith realized he'd completely fugged up and forgotten something very important at the hotel. After pleading, the band agreed to get the driver to turn around, thinking Keith had left his passport, drugs in the room, or something irreplaceable.
The limo arrives, Keith rushes into the hotel, rushes up to his room and throws the television out the window into the pool. Keith got back to limo, obviously relieved as he settled back in and said, "I nearly forgot."
I tell that story to tell this one.
I left earlier for what I believed was the night until I realized I forgot to leave you all this.
Have a great night all.

if want to see who inspired him as a youngster, check out the great jazz drummer Gene Krupa. The facial expressions, the theatrics, the stick twirling... it's uncanny.

Excellent point. Never thought about it. Keith did use a high hat in concert generally but did in studio.

Gene is definitely the man, but a jazz man. He is what he is. Ginger Baker was Jazz and made the move to rock/blues and did it well. Check out Cream at royal albert hall in the 90’s. He busted out his jazz chops while Clapton played down the blues. Absolutely spectacular.
But nobody, I mean nobody had the groove like Bonzo.

LZ 1 & 2 when they were released. We kept picking up the needle and backing it up on the album saying my God did you hear that drummer.

He is the most overrated drummer in music history

Period. Zero dynamics, zero feel. He is the drummer hero for all non musician rock fans. If you have played drums, or even played keys, guitar, or bass, in a rock Ensemble, let alone jazz, Moon is a complete nothing from a musician standpoint. In Rock, there is Bonham. From fusion there is Tony Williams, Bruford, Palmer, Shrieve. From jazz, Buddy, Elvin, Roach, Blakey. Keith Moon you can find on every college campus in every pep band. He was what he was....every non drummer, every non musician's favorite drummer.
