re-post of a re-post. Am I the only one who took Dabo's presser this way?

t appears some people expected Dabo to say he was going to fire every coach and assistant, and replace Cade. But he didn't say he would NOT replace any coaches. His answer was "I don't anticipate that." That's not a yes or a no. That's a very political well-crafted answer to a question he KNEW he'd get. He also didn't say he wouldn't bench Cade. He answered in the affirmative about CV, even saying he trusts Chris to make the plays CK didn't. That's also a calculated answer. But reassuring to some extent.

No one can expect him to say, "yes I'm firing some folks and benching Cade" in a press conference. We all know that's not how he rolls. But he did own it. He put all the onus on himself to fix it and turn things around. We will have to wait and see if he really knows how to do that.

What troubled me the most was when he said "we're not going to win the national championship..." WHAT?!

Sure, we ALL know that is 99% certainty. But for a coach to say that out loud is a detriment to moral. If he really believes he can turn things around, say that and shut up. If he doesn't believe it, still shut up. That comment was maybe the most damaging thing he said... IMHO. I could be wrong... it happens.

((I posted this as a reply earlier, but thought I should re-post here.))

national championship. With this " one play away" attitude I don't think he was forced to do a deep dive into the programs problems. Now, with this new low, he has to look at every aspect of the program. I did take the rest of the comments the way you did. For the first time I felt like he wasn't outright defiant about changes.

What I'm thinking is that Dabo won’t take any action staff wise til after the season is over. Like he said it’s an evaluation during and after the season. Like the Wes situation. But what he said about Cade and CV, I do think if Cade doesn’t produce, Dabo will put in CV

We are still experiencing the continued hangover of the Wes experiment. A new DC isnt going to come in and radically break the bad habits and poor development of players in a single offseason.

Based on what I have in spring games, we better be ready to put in Denson, Pearman and Helms as well.

What pissed me off with his presser was he thinks this is all part of Gods plan. That's ridiculous. So if we go 1-11 is that Gods plan? Is that the excuse when we suck?

“It was God’s will.”

As a Christian, I can’t stand this. Many things that happen weren’t God’s will. He gave us free will and we screw stuff up a lot. He doesn’t want to see bad things happen, but they do because he put us in charge and we make mistakes. Plus, there is an enemy at work who DOES like to see bad stuff happen to us.

I will absolutely agree that God can use bad things to teach us and help us grow. But to call those things God’s will, just because we don’t understand them or don’t like them? That is dangerous theological territory and has done a lot of damage over the years.

Thank you. I agree w/ this point of view. Additionally, after last Tuesday, James 4:6 has come to mind

King James Bible
But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

Dabo is scaring me - he has changed so much. He believes all the folks who hang on to and around him and maybe can’t hear the Holy Spirit.

I mean the whole concept of God is rationalization and place holder for human ignorance of the mystery of existence. But I do agree with you , the cop out of saying everything that happens is apart of God’s plan is just a cop out to make yourself feel better with the pains of life. Sh!t happens is basically the moral of the story in the book of Job.

110% agree.
And,if I may add: This is not about testimony or glory and praise-this is a calculated use of faith to first shield and deflect any criticism and 2nd, to distract via creating and fueling division by making it a conversation about God and faith, not his JOB as CEO of this team.
Classic manipulation tech, present polarizing statement as irrefutable belief and faith based to make it really challenging to actually discuss what he said.
I do also believe is is making sure to prime and prep everyone for a very painful rest of the season expectation. If this is God work, not the losses, I assume he means the struggle and hope of a resurrection of the team, yet he's also setting the stage for this to simply be part of a divine plan-so he’s covered either way.
No one questions his faith. So why associate faith to the teams performance and output? They are not the same thing. But continue to argue about God and religion and if Dabo if being persecuted. Stale and strawman to bring up past successes-all which EVERYONE agrees with because it is A. The Facts and B. Irrefutable. But C. It’s in the past and as we all know and agree it was magical. And IN THE PAST. So let’s all agree he did a lot IN THE PAST. What now? And his way now seems vague at best(status-quo) and based on faith/beliefs rather than measurable actions that are specific and detailed.
If nothing else, this season will be a test of faith for some.

Absolutely nothing wrong at all with what he said. He’s quoting the verses about God taking what was meant for our harm and turning it for good. Have you ever had a situation where you wanted something to work out the way you wanted it, and then six months later you realized that wasn’t gonna be the best thing for you, and you were glad it didn’t work out that way? Or maybe something you wanted didn’t work out but something better came along and you were glad you didn’t get what you wanted the first time I.e. maybe a job.

Here is what he actually said.

“This is a big week for us as we reset what’s in front of us. That’s what our focus will be. We’ll just continue to help these players transform their lives. I don’t know God’s big picture plan but he’ll use this for good. I don’t have any doubt about that. It might be 20 years from now. It might be a player saying this was the best thing that happened to him and it taught him a lot. I know God is at work here and we’ll use this opportunity to glorify him through this. We have a great group of young men, great leaders and seniors. My focus is to do what I think I do best which is to coach, teach and mentor our young men.”

Adversity builds character and God uses it to shape us to fulfill his plans and purpose for us. He prepares us for what’s ahead and we have to trust in what he has in mind for us. Dabo is talking about life things bigger than football. Nothing mysterious about it.

Judge, I don't agree with a lot of what you post, but seems we have a commonality that trumps all of that... we're brothers in Christ. And I believe Dabo uses "God's plan" verbiage to shield himself. It looks like he just cannot see that he needs to change some things. I have to believe he DOES see it but he is too prideful to say the hard things out loud. As the Good Book says, "Pride cometh before a fall" Proverbs 16:18.

I don't really care what happens to Dabo (or Brownell.) Coaches come and go, but our beloved university will remain.

People blame God for a lot of things that they shouldn't.

However, I don't think Swinney was doing that here. I think it'd be closer to the truth to say he was publicly acknowledging the failure ("we aren't going to the natty"), showing true bewilderment about it, and in the face of that bewilderment, voicing his trust in God despite it.

I think, like you said, he gave a lot of political answers so maybe he knows some major changes need to happen that aren't just cosmetic in the fact of just replacing the OC and hoping everything will be fine. He's aware guys aren't giving it their all. He's aware that there's plenty going on with fundamentals and coaches being pretty stupid with players not getting time and maybe a few others things. I'm just wondering what he will do. It's going to take massive changes and a complete overhaul to get this fixed. But this presser gave me some hope for the future as opposed to last weeks. I'm staying pessimistic about it until shown otherwise but we shall see. Lots to be done.

I pretty much agree. He gave political answers so not to box himself in.

I'll add 2 things. Replacing Cade makes no sense. His biggest problem is mental game prep and it is unlikely the coaches have CV ready in that respect if Cade isn't.

Second I think Dabo refered to God's plan a lot because this season has surprised him as much as anyone else. Until he figures things out he needs the faith that there is a bigger picture that is not clear to him yet.
