So the US wimminz soccer team suffers a humiliating loss...

in its first match of the Toyko Olympics.
Don't get me wrong, Sweden is a solid team but perhaps (just maybe) the US team, ranked No. 1 in the world, should spend more time focusing on actually preparing for and playing the game rather than on politics, filing law suits against the US Soccer Federation, and how under paid they are. Just sayin'.

Yawn. The women's soccer team was, once upon a time, a national treasure in the Mia Hamm days. Rapinoe and her gang ruined it for me and many others.

Correct Tardog, a few years back a good women's team lost to a U15 boys team 5-2. Not a knock on females, but illustrates the athletic abilities of men vs women, 15 yr old boys beat experienced seasoned pros.
As for their contract, my understanding is they were offered the same contract as the men, and turned it down. They opted for more players 28 vs 23, and more guaranteed money and less bonus money. Regardless, they negotiated the contract, approved it, and signed it.

I think this years team lost to a boys 15U also? Maybe? Regardless , that was stupid scheduling. It’s a no win. If the olympians win people say well of course, you beat children. If they lose, holy cow you lost to children!!

They aren’t scheduling an actual match.
It’s practice for the women’s team. Women’s basketball teams generally practice against me. It helps make them better to face better competition.

a) this is not a clemson football post. please learn how to post in appropriate forums b) this is a despicable post and you should be ashamed of yourself
Did you write this about the Belgium Men's National soccer team losing to Italy in the Euro Cup? That's a bigger loss - in terms of rankings - than USA v Sweden (https://www.fifa.com/fifa-world-ranking)
Finally, if your hatred of high end athletes speaking their minds over shadows your belief and patriotism to America in the US Olympics, i truly feel sorry for your sad, miserable life.

but we are equally as welcome not to like it.
Plus, it's bad optics when outspoken athletes run their mouths and then lose a game they have no business losing. It calls into question their true priorities.

And Judge i appreciate most of your posts as you're a lot more thoughtful than most of the knuckle draggers on here but your stance on "athletes shouldn't speak up" i find a bit odd. You mentioned before that this is because you're taught that in the workplace you should keep your opinions to yourself.
Ok, Then who exactly can protest these days assuming virtually everyone works? Does the janitor have the right to protest? The car worker? The delivery person? A police person?
Who is able to speak their minds specifically?

I don't have a problem with athletes speaking their mind

off the playing field. If they want to use their social media account to protest, attend rallies on their own time, or write editorials in a newspaper that's their right, just as it is anyone else's.
When athletes are using the playing field to protest, that's not okay. They shouldn't kneel during the national anthem or use their uniform as advertising space for their political messages. That's where my parallel to most other occupations is relevant.
As others have said, sports are a way for most people to watch great athletes and escape daily life. We don't want to be inundated with political messages and social activism when we watch sports.
Thus, athletes shouldn't be surprised when a segment of the population doesn't agree with them. Many of these athletes are just like many actors, in that they have an overinflated sense of self and are shocked that everyone isn't an adoring fan who agrees with everything they say. They are allowed to have an opinion, but they should be prepared for the backlash. Everyone disagreeing isn't simply an ignorant, racist white person who doesn't understand. Many viewers are tired of being characterized that way, which is why you will see more and more Americans using their sports entertainment time and money differently in the future.

What about this https://www.pujolsfamilyfoundation.org/Pujols Family Foundation The Pujols Family Foundation is a national not-for-profit agency that exists to honor God and strengthen families through our works, deeds and examples. Since beginning this foundation in 2005, we have sought to help those living with Down syndrome here at home and to improve the lives of the impoverished in the Dominican Republic.
Pujols is using his on field personality to raise funds to fight child poverty and to honor god....is that ok?
So to your final point, i don't disagree they have entitled sense of self. Because nearly all of these individuals have been catered to their entire lives and told they were superior to others based on their physical attributes. I.e. people on this board are largely responsible for these individuals to be the way they are.
BUT they are humans. They have brains. And it is also quite disrespectful to turn around and say "you're awesome because you run super fast but just do that. Nothing else because no one cares". If you're in that position, how would you feel? That literally the only reason people care about you is for one specific reason?
These individuals have a gift we only wish we could do. And you know what? They bust their butts over the course of 100s of thousands of hours to provide you a few hours of escapism.
So yeah, if they want to spout off about something for 2 minutes when they have the platform? Go for it. Do i have to agree with them and their stance? Absolutely not. But i'm not gonna get my panties in a twist over it.
You are not a racist, or whatever else for disagreeing with them. However, you're a selfish SOB for not respecting these individuals and the sacrifices they make for your enjoyment.

duties as an employee of his team to promote his foundation? If so, he shouldn't do that. Outside of his job? Great!
Athletes are paid (handsomely) for their athletic prowess, not for their non-sports opinions.
You're right, they bust their tails to reach the pinnacle of their sport. Good for them! In exchange for that rare combination of genetic gifts and intense work ethic, they are paid millions of dollars and have the adoration of many people across the globe. Fans show their appreciation by watching their games, cheering for them, and buying the products they endorse.
The fact that you also consider listening to their non-sports related rants/stances/causes as a requisite for supporting them and respecting them is ludicrous.

They are actors.
They get paid to entertain people and are not necessary. Any1 can simply turn the channel and go on with their lives.
If this lady had the cure for cancer then everyone who wanted a cure for cancer would have to listen to her.
If you don't want to see her kick balls, turn the channel.
If you are really upset, get a group of people with like minds and have a peaceful protest. If it turns into a riot you may get a free tv out of it.

Politics do not belong in sports. I do not pay to go to/see a game to hear some over paid athletes political opinion opinion. Sports are a release from everyday life and struggles for people, a way to get away and forget about problems. If you force your opinion/views on me don’t get upset and offended when I give mine back. If you don’t want to hear what I have to say, don’t force me to hear what you have to say. Because I guarantee you, I will give you my thoughts back and I love my country and I’m not ashamed of it.
We can agree to disagree outside of the sports platform. When you are an athlete and step inside an arena just do your job that people pay to see you do. If you want to step in front of a camera and up to a podium outside of a sports setting go ahead. I can change the channel. I should not turn on ESPN and hear the crap they put out. Give me sports news and that’s it. Don’t take a knee when the national anthem comes on, don’t turn your back on the flag when it’s presented. Don’t disrespect the country that provides you with the rights and freedoms that you have.

Your examples demonstrate your desire to muddy the waters simply to prevent clarity.
So your response to the objection over political behavior invading sports is to claim that, if a line of distinction can't be drawn in an easy place, it shouldn't be drawn at all? (Many of us think the lines are clear, but you don't. )
What about profanity? Can Rapinoe start dropping multiple F-bombs during her live interviews? Should she still be cheered for her "F Trump" diatribes, or would that be inappropriate now that he's no longer President? Why can't she speak her foul mind anytime?
OTOH, what about the Christian women on the team who are not allowed to be divisive by talking about Jesus? Why go they have to choose to express love for Rapinoe OR Jesus but not both?
If you want to pretend that "freedom" has no common sense moral limitations, you have never successfully raised kids or managed employees.
The concept of Appropriateness exists in every area of life. It's simply more visible and obnoxious in high profile sports, particularly the Olympics, when the athletes ostensibly represent their country, not themselves.

Well he's not wrong about their lawsuits against the USSF

[ in reply to Re: So the US wimminz soccer team suffers a humiliating loss... ] |

That was an absolute joke, and rightfully got laughed out of court.
The men's deal is exclusively incentive-based. They get absolutely nothing outside of bonuses for appearances in matches, WC qualification, WC results, etc.
The women's team was offered the EXACT SAME pay structure as the men and rejected it because they wanted a bunch of other things that the men do not get such as base salary, health insurance, injury protections, severance pay, and a host of other things (it's a long list). They seemed quite happy at the time they signed the deal making public statements about how it was a "victory" and the like.
Then, at some point after they won the WC, they realized they would've made about 4x more in bonuses had they been under the men's deal so they sued the USSF for gender discrimination. The thing is, they didn't just want to swap deals for the men's deal, they wanted the men's bonus structure while also retaining all of the benefits that they had just negotiated for.

Agree 110%! It just takes one player to disrupt the focus of the team. A great example of an athlete hitting rock bottom fast was Rhonda Roussy the MME fighter. She started focusing on everything but trying and got her but kicked. I don’t think she every recovered.
Now the US Women’s soccer are to busy trying to play politics instead of soccer!

Sincere Question. What do you think Vegas Odds would be if the woman's team played the number 1 rated 15 and under Boys Team? My guess is the 15u team would be favored by 3 goals
