This shouldn’t be a binary argument.
You can be a die hard supporter of the team and debate the merits of not using the transfer portal or our current roster management practices.
Both put us at an undebatable competitive disadvantage.
Maybe we make up for it in culture and our recruiting pitch, but I for one don’t want the good old days to end, and would like us to expand use of both.
I still support Dabo and think we have the potential to make a championship run next season.
Unfortunately, in order to do that, we’ll need roster improvement, particularly in OL and CB. QB play obviously needs upgrading (ideally DJ, but hard to be confident).
KJ coming back is a must, as is keeping starters out of the portal. TD returning would be huge.

I’m also not predicting ruin.
Dabo is a winner and will always have us as a top 20-25 program at minimum. He’s been too successful and is too good at what he does not to keep us a good program.
With that said, I do have concerns about our lack of scholarship players. We had an awful offense this year due to multiple position issues. We just addressed that by promoting coaches from the same staff that contributed to that offense. We are having a down recruiting year. All is not rosy.
I firmly believe that Dabo can fix it. But if you’re living vicariously through our past playoff appearances and hanging your hat on “just a few plays away” and not acknowledging the issues we have to deal with, then you’re likely to be really disappointed next year when we fail to be legitimate contenders for a national championship again.

it will only be because we figured out how to better utilize our superior talent to make it through a weak ACC. It very likely won’t be because we are close to being on the same level as the top 2-3 teams.
Sort of like our last two playoff appearances.
I think our defense will keep us in a lot of games next year. And I think our offense will be better, but probably not significantly so. But we have a lot of ground to make up if we want to compete with Alabama. I also expect Georgia and probably another team to be better than us next year. And that’s a best case scenario.

We were absolutely a top 2-3 team and an lam time LSU team pulled away.
Ohio state played a good game, fields made multiple incredible throws and that was the difference. To say we weren’t in the same category with Trevor and ETN, multiple first round defenders is laughable
