If the SEC was to expand into the ACC

Jul 1, 2022, 1:24 PM

I don't believe they will invite Clemson. If it's just about football branding, then yes, Clemson is by far the biggest brand in the ACC and would definitely be on top of the SEC wish list. But the SEC has no shortage of big brand teams. And that's not what they will be looking for. They will be looking for expanding into new markets...new states. Where they can make the most money on their TV deals. They already planted their flag in this state 30 years ago. They don't need this state. So I believe they will go after North Carolina and VT. That would make the most sense financially for the SEC.

I hope I'm wrong...but this is what I believe and has been the thinking of the SEC in the past (Missouri over Clemson)

Then The Big 10 will get their foot print in SEC country.

ACC needs to grab TCU, Baylor, ND, and WVU.

Otherwise Clemson, FSU, Miami, and maybe even NCST will be getting lawyers ready to help them make moves.

I disagree. The SEC is already the most watch college football conference. I think it is about branding. Oklahoma doesn't bring in a huge tv market but their brand is huge.

No matter what, Clemson will be fine

The SEC isn't going to say no and I do think the Big 10 will get over the AAU requirement for prospective members. Nebraska terminated AAU a while back and that's one example. I do think that sans AAU, the bar will be higher (VT has little shot at Big 10 membership for instance).

I just hope VT has a seat when this is all over. I'm not sure we will... I think it's about 70/30.

Good luck Tech Man. Not panicky. But certainly apprehensive.
