Why the NIT was good for Clemson basketball
Mar 25, 2014, 9:44 PM

look, I wanted the NCAA bid as much as anyone, but the NIT has allowed our fans to really bond with this team. Even the first game without the students there had a raucous crowd, and these last 2 have been dynamite. Interest is back in Clemson basketball and with the LJ renovations, a strong team returning next season regardless of KJ's decision, and recruiting picking up, our future is very bright, if......we lock up Brownell. Now is the time to send that message to recruits out there and take Clemson basketball to heights it's never known

The last time we made it to MSG in 2007

it propelled us to the NCAA tourney 4 straight years and the 2008 team should had made it to at least the sweet 16. I believe no matter what KJ decides to do we will be in the tourney next year, and I could see us being a main stay in the tourney for quite sometime as long we (fans and the AD) are willing to show commitment to Brownell.

I'm thinking Harrison, Roper, and Nnoko. We will also return Rod Hall who will be one of the better PG's in the ACC next year

offensively. He's elite defensively, he's still a work in progress offensively, which is why I think he returns. But if he leaves, we're adding 3 skilled shooters, and just like this year with KJ, we'll see returning guys take big steps forward. I can see Nnoko, Harrison, Roper, Blossomgame and Ajukwa taking major steps forward next season. Filer as well.

So very true! The silver lining is really showing right now. Duke is sitting and we are still playing!
KJ may have second thoughts for what might be if he comes back....

I personally don't think that KJ is leaving, and I don't think he has really thought about it. Every time he has been asked, his answer has been, that is something that me and my family will talk about. I think that his family want a degree for their son first, and pro ball second. That is just the vibe I'm picking up when KJ has been asked if this was his last year in a Clemson uniform. I could be dead wrong, but like the rest of you, I hope that he stays. KJ is one of the reasons that Clemson BB is looking up, and I think he wants to finish what he has help start. And like the food Lion Lion, that's just my 2 cents worth.

Amen to making sure we keep Brownell long term. Sunday was the first trip I've made to LJ in several years and I was amazed and proud at how energized the place was. MSG is a great accomplishment for this team that was projected to be next to last in the conference. GO TIGERS!!

of big time NCAA tourney games, and it was so good for our players to feel the appreciation, I bet coach had to be the happiest man in LJ, happy for his team and happy for the way things developed . I know the NIT doesn't give us a lot of bragging rights , comparatively speaking, but winning three games in any tournament is an accomplishment , one we can be proud of , and , like you said, the bonding that took place over these last few home games cannot be overpriced. Way to go , coaches, players , and fans !

Look at it this way....the team is getting extra practices and extra games, and will help further the team next year....it's like extra practices for a bowl game...but the biggest plus for this team to me they are beginning to hate losing as much as Brownell does, something Swinney does not get yet

It doesn't matter what subject we are discussing, someone will bring something in it that doesn't even come close to what we're discussing. What the H&ll does Dabo have to do with this BB program. He doesn't, just a kick at Dabo is all it was. That is no different that we are talking about FB, the coots are always brought in it. Its just people wanting to bring in negativity or kick at what we do have that is good. But while I'm at it Mr fuzzy. What coach has done better than Dabo sense Danny Ford. If you want to kick and spit at Dabo's success at Clemson, at least wait until we are talking FB. -1

This year's team should be proud and has exceeded my expectations but maybe not their own. Several players are stepping up. Congratulations to the team and coaches for peaking at the right time and best wishes in NY!

KJ needs to stay. We would have an awesome team and hopefully this really shows it to him. But he needs more experience. If he could come up a notch next year, then watch the high draft position. he needs to shoot better.

Exactly, b/c we know our competitors are telling all the recruits that us and them are after. That if they come to Clemson, they will be playing their home games in an empty arena. Now that we have a solid coach that can BUILD a competitive program at Clemson. We as fans should BUILD a competitive Basketball fan base that can compete with any other fan base in the country with a filled LJ arena. That's the least we can do for our team that represents Clemson as a winning program.

Here's why it matters
Mar 25, 2014, 10:56 PM

For some senior led teams it is the ceiling while for younger squads it is a stepping stone of tremendous experience. We have zero seniors. We play a tough defensive style style of play and on offense we look for shots and open lanes; and take our time doing so. The NIT is essentially our programs launch pad. It matters. Especially to all of us in attendance.
Go Tigers! I love this team.
