my wife to WB. She was simply amazed at the difference! Enjoy. below:
I will not go into the details of why I had to attend the SC Spring Game but it was either go to the game to catch a ride home or be stuck in Cola for the night.
Let me say I felt a range of emotions as we looked for a parking spot. I felt sick to my stomach. The area around the stadium is a vast wasteland of concrete. Everywhere I looked there were burgandy t-shirts with stupid phrases like "Go #####", "Cock-n-Fire", "Fear the Spur", and "Why Not Us". We parked and walked about a mile to get to the stadium. To add insult to injury it was $10 to get in.
We get in the stadium and the entire bottom deck is filled. I will give them credit for coming out in droves but these people actually treated this game like it was SC/UGA.
Anyway, back to my main purpose. The fans, as a whole, are white trash. Don't get me wrong, every school has their share, but SC has a whole lot more. Half the crowd would fall under the category of "normal" but the other half would be classified as white trash, low-income rednecks. The environment reminded me of a NFL game. 1 in 4 grown men were wearing a jersey and blue jeans. I saw enough starter kit mustaches to last a lifetime. About 3 dozen fans were more interested in downing the beer in their hand than getting into the game in time for kickoff.
I've never thought like this before today but the average Clemson fan is a cut above the average SC fan. It's not even close. Clemson seems to attract a fan base that is more interested in a family experience and it shows. The crowd at Billy Brice would have fit right in at a NASCAR race held in the mid '80's.
Don't ever let some Gamecock fan tell you they have a classy fan base (or as classy as Clemson's). It ain't true. I hadn't been to a game a Billy Brice since college. When you are that age you don't recognize things for what they are. I will never go back again

reasons Clemson is what is, is because South Carolina is an inferior school. One of the problems that both NC State and Va Tech have is that they are competing with an elite public, in state Liberal Arts school. Clemson does not have compete with an in state UNC or Virginia, and hence has a better mix of students than NC State or Va Tech - IMHO. Just my opinion - flame on if you want. I for one am thankful that USC draws the fan base that it does.

because Carolina fans think the exact same thing when they go to Clemson games.
Our fan bases are the exact same, because we're pulling from the same state.

have to admit that USC attracts more uneducated, white trash. It's smack in the middle of Columbia first of all. Second of all, rednecks are drawn to a mascot that represents illegal chicken fighting (that normally took/takes place behind trailors, plus it's the 3rd easiest college to get into in the state of SC (which is not stellar academically).

Why does USC attract more uneducated people?
Apr 15, 2007, 10:35 AM
|

I can make the argument that Clemson attracts more uneducated white trash fans because they win more. No denying fans with no tangible allegiance are more likely to root for a winner.
It's a poor argument, because once again our fan bases are exactly the same. It's like Auburn and Alabama arguing over who has the more trailor trash fanbase.
You guys sure do turn 50 SAT points into the stuff of legends.

From google.....and USC webste
"USC is attracting higher-caliber students. Average SAT scores have gone up 99 points in the past 10 years. Incoming freshmen in 2005-2006 had an average score of 1166"
You are right I know next to nothing about South Carolina. I does look better than when I was in HS. Congrats.

Clemson the edge in classiness. I mean, most SEC schools poke fun at South Carolina fans bc of their lack of class and sophistication. That's pretty bad considering the 90% of the conference consists of below average public academic institutions.
