When is it ok to pull against Clemson?
May 11, 2015, 4:30 PM
|
|
My nephew, a junior at Furman, gets his first collegiate start against Clemson at Fluor Field tomorrow night. His brother, a freshman, will start at shortstop.
Are there any circumstances under which it is ok to pull against the Tigers? Usually, I can pull for the shortstop to play well in the field and produce at the plate, but for the Tigers to prevail.
A pitcher can't really do his job well and lose, and I want my nephew to get a win. Since our season is toast anyway, and everyone seems to want Hack fired, does the will of the board allow me to pull for Furman?
P.S. I will NEVER ask permission to pull FOR the Coots (glad I don't have any nephews there).

If it was your kids I'd say go ahead and pull for Furman

Since it's your nephew pitching, maybe root for him to do well and for the score on both sides to stay low, and then for Clemson to tear up the relievers who come in behind him?

Guess that ain't happening up in the upstate, but it's pouring in Cooterville right now.
It's ok to support your family. Specially in a regular season game.
Now... Postseason... That's a whole other situation...

Clemson scoring against reliever to win 1-0 does not work
May 11, 2015, 4:46 PM

A) my pitching nephew would do great and still not get the win, and B) my shortstop nephew would do nothing offensively
My blood runs orange, and my brother is a Clemson alum too, but these boys ARE my blood

No MLB potential probably. This would likely be his crowning achievement.

Them winning and making the family proud would be more important to be than Clemson winning. Clemson can (hopefully) win other games.

Not sure. I don't watch baseball or follow it. I just know Clemson's record isn't too hot.

if they win you congratulate them and be proud. If Clemson wins, you don't say a word and encourage them to do well next time.

when he was in high school, but now that he plays college ball, I don't think I would ever pull for Clemson to lose. He has never played against Clemson, so I have not had to really make that choice.

They are nephews . . . they will

forget you even exist unless you leave them in the will.
Clemson is there for you always . . . and is deeper than some marriage-related heat of the moment (or two)moment of passion (gross) between your brother or sister and basically some complete stranger.

enter the fray other than to relate my own experiences.
One nephew is a Tar Heel; another, a Citadel Bulldog; yet, another is a UNC-C Forty-Niner. One niece is also a Forty-Niner; another, a Gamecock and another, an Auburn Tiger. My Son is a Pitt Panther.
BUT MY MOST FAVORITE IS A NEPHEW WHO IS A CLEMSON ALUMNUS. The rest are also-rans, won't get a cotton-pickin' penny...and hopefully, will experience the horrors and turmoil from catastrophic seasons in every sport they play.
And, I'm being nice about it. lol
