Do Coaches like Tom Allen and Matt Luke still aspire to be Head Coaches

at some point, or, is there a chance that they grow to love Clemson and the area, and their jobs so much that they want to stay with the program and finish out their careers? I always had that same question about BV and finally got the answer I didn't want to hear, but I hope Clemson now has someone that will bring the 'D' back to where we all want it!!

Matt Luke has already been there and reportedly doesn’t want to go back. I’m not sure about Allen’s aspirations.

It has been with Clemson once a coach has been there for a season, they're not in a hurry to go somewhere else for a while. Take Brent Venables, he could have been a HC long before he took the job at Oklahoma but for him it was to be at Oklahoma or remain at Clemson...

I think most people, by the time they hit their 40's, realize what they are capable of and decide if they are content to do what they are doing or look for other challenges. Some people, like BV, can be talked into changing their minds. He probably won't regret becoming a head coach, but I think he (and a lot of other people) realize he might have been better off staying one of the best defensive coordinators in the business.

My hunch is that it would take an incredible offer at an elite program to get either of them to even consider it and even that may not be enough. Remember BV only left because OK offered him a fortune and he really couldn't say no at that point.

We may never know. BV was the most loyal and the most happy. But you can't

turn down an opportunity like THAT. Tom Allen will likely not get an opportunity like THAT. But Matt Luke could down the road.
Tom Allen was obviously the right hire. Even if he leaves one day, we desperately needed him to repair the terrible damage our D suffered.

Bold statement when he hasn't even coached a game for us yet.
I think he will prove to be a great hire, but we don't know yet.

lacking for the coaching of our defense. And we can see plainly what qualities and personality attributes Tom Allen brings to the table. Even if Tom Allen turns into an aliens and flies away during the first game... Dabo made the best choice at the time, considering all knowable variables.

I think most people find it nearly impossible to turn down a $10-20M dollar contract. I suspect that both Allen and Luke plan to end their careers at Clemson. But when the dollars get big enough most people grab them, even if they are already rich.

I wouldn't know, but being Matt Luke and making 1.2 million living in Clemson sounds awesome.

I would think that they might, but only under the right circumstances.

They have both been head coaches, and gained valuable insight into what that's like. They have also gained wisdom to know that many head coaching jobs are fraught with danger.
As a result, I view both as being happy in their current roles, and not actively looking to jump to the first head coaching job that comes available. However, they might be interested if the right job came along.

environment for coaches at Clemson. I don't think Brent Venables would have ever stayed as long as he did if that weren't the fact. Dabo makes sure families are taken care of and included as apart of the community and has stated many times that football (the job) never takes priority over life/family. That attention to detail is hard to come by in other programs. And coaching in college is a rigorous schedule.. its long hours and all year commitment in alot of ways. You get paid well though.

Both guys have been HC. I’m thinking that boat has sailed. Luke maybe slim chance to go for round two.

not knowing them I'd say the chances are smaller they'd go back to HC......

since both have been there before at the P5 level. I would expect it would take a very lucrative salary for them to jump back to HC at that level..........maybe $6million+ (less for Luke), but who knows.
for Allen I'd say it's a decent gig being a top 5 paid DC w/o the HC responsibility for Luke, getting ~$1million+ as a position coach/Co-OC isn't bad either.
big money talks though.
