Ron really stepped in it with Disney. Whatever short-term win he was hoping to get with Disney has become a millstone around his neck. Now he's getting sued by Disney for being a Big Gov nanny stater. Aside from that initial "victory" that was much celebrated around these parts, it's been one loss after another for the governor. More needless, self-inflicted hits because he couldn't help himself trying to out-populist Abbott and Trump. He lost my vote long ago.

A corporation suing because they lost special corporate welfare privileges that no other company in the state, or probably entire country, possessed is about as rich as you pretending this cost Desantis your vote. Both are laughable to anyone who isnt a moron.

I am a Disney fan. Going there this weekend with my family. So I am/ know that I am biased toward “Disney”.
That said, this argument about privileges, to me, is absurd. How many corporations/ companies/ own 27,000 acres at one site? That is more acreage than the island of Manhattan. The district was setup so that Disney could manage/develop the property, which it owns/ efficiently without interfering tying up county resources. They are still following building codes, state and federal laws. If anything this was a perfect example of a partnership between government and business. This is what drives me nuts about the republicans doing this.
Given the Governor’s comments/ public addresses toward Disney, not sure how you try to tap dance out of this. The more he talks/ brags about this, the worse he looks. Going to be a slam dunk for Mickey.

arrangement was completely one-sided to favor Disney are the ones who, ironically, are doing mental gymnastics to avoid admitting this whole thing started because DeSantis didn't like how Disney was exercising its speech rights.

A couple of points. First, I am completely against state-sponsored handouts to attract business. South Carolina has done it a lot! When we have states competing against one another in this way, it becomes a race to the bottom to attract business. So the residents and the established businesses are the ones who pay for that which the company does not.
(Here in Connecticut, the Governor faced a lot of ire for "allowing" GE to move their HQ to Boston. Well Massachusetts has rued that deal since the day after they signed it.)
Anyhoo, Florida shouldn't have made the deal in question in the first place. But it was the kind of deal that often is praised as "job creating" in some quarters. (If we're all being honest.)
The problems is how this has played out... they had a deal. Florida is backing out of the deal and DeSantis has run his mouth to such a degree that Disney thinks it has a good case. That's a problem. I don't know why anyone would have approved a sovereign state of Disney, but they did.
Like I say, I think these deals are generally as bad as stadium deals! But once its done, to backtrack for political reasons is problematic. If you are going to praise DeSantis for standing up, don't you have to criticize him for letting it happen in the first place?

BMW paid off in a big way for SC, but (as I say) it becomes like stadium deals. You get states bidding against one another in a race for the bottom.
I'll give you a bad one (and it's kind of ironic, because it wasn't even a deal). The injuns who own the casinos in Connecticut cut the state a half-billion dollar check out of the kindness of their hearts. They aren't paying a bill - it's a gift. But you can imagine how easy it is to get hooked on an annual half-billion dollar check.
So time and again there has been talk about opening a third casino in Connecticut in Bridgeport. Most recently (a decade ago?) Trump was even one of the names involved. Anyway, you had a couple of different casino developers putting together proposals for a Bridgeport casino. Finally, having had enough of that, the Mashentucket Pequots picked up the phone to the Governor and said, "if you want to open a casino in Bridgeport and we aren't running it, we're going to stop sending you a half-billion a year." Needless to say, we don't have that Bridgeport casino.

Thank you for the Casino example

Would love to know more details. Seems like an example that shows a negative impact regarding a “partnerships”. But with the casino example, it seems like the existing casino/ which I am assuming is on a reservation/ or similar type grounds, the tribe Does not have to provide the money. They are just doing it as a tribute to keep out completion. Mob style. If a viable party procured the land/ could build the resort, the only thing missing is the license. I figure they could push for that, and eventually sue to get the rights. But I do understand that dirty politics do exist.

Desantis/ recent FL government did not create the district. It was created back in 1967. This was after Disney had purchased the land, which took place in 1965. The district was created to support the development of the real EPCOT. That’s another story.
That said, it still comes down to a partnership to develop the land. I don’t know all the ends and outs regarding the “taxes”. But I bet Disney gets to defray road maintenance/ construction, and municipality type services (fire/police) from its earnings. But those are real “costs”. I am interested to see how many “taxes” are on my bill when my family leaves next week. My gut tells me Florida/ residents do well off of this partnership.
I lean republican. This deal seems like a good thing.
But how Desantis approached it makes me shake my head.

gone. In this story, DeSantis -- a government official with presidential aspirations -- is the "good guy" fighting against an evil corporation.
Of course, cognitive dissonance prevents them from accepting the very start of this kerfuffle was DeSantis -- a government official with presidential aspirations -- did not like the speech a private entity was using. So not only are the Republicans in this situation a bunch of commies, they hate Free Speech as well.

$50 to the charity of their choice if they can find DeSantis talking specifically about the Reedy Creek arrangement before he started talking about how "woke" they've become.
This is entirely precipiced on speech, and the government using its authority to attack a private entity over speech said government does not like. Even an abysmal moron should be able to see this.

Love their corporate welfare also, especially when those corporations funnel millions to Democrat politicians. Disneys "special privileges" resulted in extra profits that go directly into the pockets of Democrats. Now mean old DeMarxist is taking away their welfare because they decided to come out in favor of creepy weirdo teachers talking about sex with six year olds and they just cant stand it.

Respectfully (and there has to be somewhere to find it) I think you'll find that conservative states have offer more tax breaks to move business their way than liberal states. They also trumpet "low taxes" (which means less money that goes to services for the citizens) from the start. So the residents are underwriting corporate relocation.
