I WILL SAY THIS AGAIN. WHY NOT US? WHY NOT CLEMSON?

Could Clemson become an independent school? I think so for the following (3) reasons.
1. The fan base and alumni have no shortage of individuals who could donate to the school in order to keep the athletic and academic programs functional and even flourishing. Of course, Clemson would have to get creative and establish incentives for alumni and fans alike to donate more than they currently are through IPTAY. However, it is a possible feat.
2. Clemson could still secure a massive media deal with any of the major sports networks. After all, if Notre Dame can, then so can Clemson.
3. Executing such a move would actually benefit Clemson across the board. Clemson wouldn't have scheduling restrictions. With the dissolution of the PAC 12, Clemson could schedule 3 teams from each of the remaining POWER 4 conferences each season. If each opponent is a formidable opponent, then it boosts the strength of schedule for an overall better resume to be considered for the College Football Playoff. The only exception would be South Carolina as they're one of the weakest teams in the nation. Should Clemson fair well against the opponents on the schedule it would also boost the name brand and amplify recruiting.
I would love for this to happen because the season would be so much more interesting each year with a larger variety of opponents to choose from in all sports.
What say ye?

Small alumni base and lack of national brand power primarily.

You think Clemson can get a media deal long term that would rival or exceed what they would get in a conference, even the ACC? If you think we can, then there’s not much to explain.

Clemson doesn't have the same national pull.

Even ND can't truly be independent. They have kept football mostly independent (don't forget the 5ish ACC games each year) but joined the ACC for all sports except for football and hockey. Why? Because those sports need a home. It was too hard to keep them independent.
A big advantage ND has over Clemson is nationality. Like it or not, ND is a national brand. In recent years (due to our football success and the plethora of college football on national tv) Clemson has become a bigger brand, but it still doesn't compete with ND. Back in the late 80s and early 90s I remember a common response I'd get to Clemson - oh yeah, the Clemson Tide. Sometimes they'd know Clemson because of William Perry - oh yeah, the Fridge went to Clemson. Like them or not (and I'm a not) Notre Dame is recognized everywhere and they have generations of nationally based fans. I love the Tigers, but we don't have the same pull. I hate it, but we don't.
I doubt the Big 10 and SEC would be excited to help the newly independent Clemson in filling their football schedule. Even ND was struggling to fill the later part of the season before the ACC arrangement started. Before the new aquisitions Big10 schools played 9 conference games. How many of them want to play Clemson? And they generally schedule their non-conference games early in the season, then conference games take over. How about the SEC? Do we really think they are going to stick with 8 conference games? How keen will the ACC schools be to keep playing the Tigers? And how many more lame games will Tiger fans accept? Even more 2A and Group of 5 games? That's not going to drive high viewership.
Of course college football is in the midst of big change, so never say never. If football separates from other sports, who knows? And of course this is just my opinion. But since you asked, that's why I think why not.

They announced that they are sticking with 8 for 2024 but no word on what happens beyond this season. I'd be shocked if they don't go to 9 for 2025 and beyond.

Independents are being fazed out. Notre Dame is only relevant because of their TV contract.

I attended the Notre Dame football game at Clemson back in 1977 where Joe Montana and his crew robbed us and then went on to win the national championship. Several of us Clemson folk were surprised to see tons of cars pull into the parking lot with license plates from all over the country, and their fans piling out decked in green.
That was almost 50 years ago. Clemson’s national brand has grown since then, but we’re nowhere near the fan base Notre Dame has. To survive as an independent, we would need that, and I believe even they will join a conference within the next few years. They already have for other sports besides football.

No way " Chesty ". Even Notre Dame may be close to joining a conference. If not, they get preferential treatment like none other. Clemson and the majority of the other schools could band together and just withdraw from the ACC thus dissolving the league and then form a new one. This move would-in my opinion- create an incapable situation for the ability to collect financial penalties for a virtually non-existent conference. Clemson would not make this move without being confident of eventual success. The ball is now rolling.

Texas couldn’t do it with its own network so no Clemson would t survive in this market.

Thanks for the objective input and opinions. I see the reason for it now. In fact, I believe it further echoes comments made from the last time I asked a similar question. However, I wish it weren't true and whenever I get excited about the upcoming football season my grandiose orange tinted sunglasses block out my view of an ever-seeming reality.
