While I was thinking about Dabos contract and how "we shouldn't criticize him so much" even though he's one of the highest paid coaches in the WORLD, it lead me to another question...
the way he handles the roster/portal and perhaps sticks with certain people far too long, hire from within, do you think Alabama would take him as a coach right now? I'm sure they would, but I'm thinking they would be 50/50. In years past, I would think more Bama fans would welcome the fact more than would now.
Again, just a question.

who said a few years ago that he would take Saban's place when he retired don't want him anymore. But they're idiots too.

the family is from South Carolina. Dad coot always had a second team to pull for each Saturday, you know because he pulls for the coots. Used to be FSU during Bobby Bowden days. Well, they all moved to Alabama years ago and they all became Bama fans. Papa coot rarely watches the Gamecocks anymore, especially if they are on the same time as Bama.
Dabo has turned wife into a Clemson fan...but I will say the coot roots were coming out when she argues with me that Beamer is "moving them in the right direction."

that Dabo would even want to follow Saban as Bama's next head coach.
The coach who is hired to replace a legend rarely fares well.

No way Bama would want Dabo now unless he changes his mindset. He’d turn Bama into a SEC bottom feeder

You might wanna fact check that. Dabo’s Tiger teams are 14-5 against SEC competition since 2012 including wins against LSU, Bama & Georgia, aTm, &Auburn (when they were good) Sounds like a surface dweller to me

I'm sure they would, but I'm thinking they would be 50/50. In years past, I would think more Bama fans would welcome the fact more than would now.
Again, just a question.
What's being overlooked are the things folks hate about Dabo (hiring from within, valuing his players and protecting the culture) are the things he used to make Clemson an elite football program. Not only elite because of the on the field results and championships but elite in the off the field side as well. Before Dabo we were always a good program but never truly elite. Certainly, CDF was elite on the field but we were under investigation or probation for most of his tenure plus had a lot of off the field issues.
So now after 10 years of unprecedented success in all facets of the program we had two seasons of not making the playoffs (both 10+ win seasons and one conference championship) and the t-net brain trust believes we should abandon all the things which got us here in the hopes we can be super elite (playoff bound) every single year. Let that sink in for a moment....abandon the things which made us elite so we can somehow do all the things the other programs are doing who have never been elite so that we can have even more success.
Yes I get that Dabo is human and makes mistakes. I have often questioned certain aspects of the program but much of the criticism is over the top. Firing coaches and loading up on portal guys who could not make it elsewhere will not give the results you desire. If they did GT, Coots, Miami, etc would all be playoff teams.

selecting a new head coach. Imo, it's foolish to think fans have any control of decisions made on coaching hires. Fans can influence when a coach is fired but that's about it.
Dabo will be the first coach Bama reaches out to when Saban retires. Nick might make the call.

By the time Saban retires (2 or 3 years at least) Dabo will have either adjusted to the new game of college football or have stubbornly sunken into mediocrity.

For people who think Dabo is overpaid I suggest you google “Dabo Swinney economic impact”. It will open your eyes what having a good and sometimes great football program can do for a local economy that reaches all across the upstate. Never mind that he donated over $1M of his salary during the pandemic. Or that he gave up salary when we were struggling to hire top notch assistant coaches. He is worth every penny as most any businessperson in the upstate can tell.
