Is there a third party emerging
Apr 2, 2019, 8:43 AM
|
|
from the ashes of the two parties?
One one side you have MAGA conservatives. Love the trolling. Love the disruption. Love the identity politics and will rabidly defend Trump and any other troll president because they see it as a direct affront to the "upper political class" who looks down upon them.
On the other side you have the nutjob liberals who are for the GND by AOC, they are the embodiment of twitter SJW's where everything a white male does is inherently bad.
Then you have a silent majority in the middle. Those who are on both sides of the spectrum but are not on the fringes. They like how the economy is doing under Trump, but can't stand the person holding the office. They believe the Office of the President should have dignity. They believe in equality for all, but don't believe that white men are evil. They believe that we need to protect our environment and that man made climate change is real and a threat, but don't believe in sweeping massive changes to an entire country's way of life when other countries are larger polluters.
In the past, this silent majority was able to be persuaded to one candidate or the other. However, with the fringes of both parties having a much stronger pull on candidates, this may be the election where the entire middle is left out.
If that happens, we could see a middle party emerge.

Only the dems are in ashes.

This isn't a shot at the dems. It's more pointing out the premise of your question is not based on reality.
However, there is a third party which represents the college age voter. Bernie socialism. I imagine those middle of the road people will not be wholeheartedly supporting Bernie.

Because political scientists spend tons of time studying how people identify by party. Americans are strongly partisan. The independents in the middle don't really change their numbers much and never come close to unseating the parties.

So...

how would the political scientist know if the silent majority remain silent. Did you check the 2016 election to see how the silent majority voted? Seems like all the noise is coming from the Northeast and Coastal West to me. That may be why the polls all showed Hillary in the lead right up until the vote was counted.

If they stay silent, that means they don't vote and thus they don't matter.
Go ahead and abandon this before you look even dumber.

and instead focus on what you'll say next. I don't know what they are called but there should be a name which is nicer than what I call them.

That's not what "silent majority" means....

it doesn't mean that they don't vote. It means that they aren't engaged in vocal support/opposition/protest on the issues of the day.

I'm aware of what it means. 88 is suggesting they're so silent that they're immune to being studied. That's a ridiculous assertion, but if they really are that silent, they don't vote either.

The left isn't so far left, that's BS the media sells.
Republicans are not unhappy with Trump, that's BS the media sells.

He represents the only third party which could get the dem nomination and if anyone thinks a pub primary against Trump is likely they aren't tracking our economic growth.

You do not grasp the one thing that trumps your statement. Some side with either party while holding their nose due to no viable option, a 3rd party with backing would be great.

I grasp that perfectly well. It's been studied and found not to be true. Support of the parties is solid, not the result of holding one's nose.

says and does. The silent majority remained silent and speak only with their vote. You don't hear them or see them until the vote is counted. I admit that many believe they are picking between two evils. I'll give you that but the group called 'silent majority,' are conservative.
Nixon, I think, was the first person to use that term. He applied it to those who supported him yet never spoke out.

If they're a majority, then Republicans should far perform polls at the voting booth. By a factor of 2, at least. Let's see the evidence.
