I think Texas And Oklahoma to the SEC is exciting !

Jul 23, 2021, 9:59 AM

Now of course, we (ACC) must counter ... thusly ...

We get WVU. After all, its makes perfect sense since natural geographic rivals with Pitt, VaTech, US (its not that far) and besides, we (ACC) really screwed them over back awhile AND ... they need a place to go after B12 Collapse

We get Navy. Yes, Navy is a "small" school but then again it fits nicely with the ACC Tradition of having "small members"... The Dukes, The Wake Forests, the whatever's .... plus its presteejus.

Any others ? Notre Dame is going away, right ?

Don't want anything to do with ND or Maryland. I think Penn St. would be a good add on.

Why would Penn State want to leave the B10 ? then again ...

Jul 23, 2021, 11:48 AM

It would geographic sense and natural rivalries with Pitt, also new ACC member WVU ... elephant in the closet is L'ville ... I always thought they more of a B12 school ... besides Kentucky does not have a coastline. Sooooo, keep Navy ? I like Navy ... natural rivalry there, and WF and BC and Dook ... all in the same class. Well heeled alumns. ACC would be the "classy" Football Conference ... ALL great schools Sports and Academics .... YUGE TV Market.

Why would we split TV $$$ with Navy?

Jul 23, 2021, 12:06 PM

Navy contributes nothing, and needs nothing. ACC is going to be in pain with limited expansion options for good football (unless they miraculously poach Penn St).

Navy contributes nothing ? I guffaw ...

Navy audience is YUGE ! Nationwide and nay, international. There is a reason the Army-Navy game is such a big deal every year, despite the respective team's record.

I don't mean to denigrate the Army-Navy game or rivalry, but it has a huge audience in part because of when it's played. It's played after most teams have finished their regular season. Broadcast that game in the middle of the season -week 6 - on a day including UGA-Auburn, Texas-Oklahoma, Michigan-Nebraska, Penn St-Iowa, FSU-North Carolina, and Alabama-Texas A&M, and see what kind of audience it draws.

I will watch the Army-Navy game whatever weekend it’s played on and no matter who is playing elsewhere (except Clemson). Yes I was in the Navy and all the service academies have large followings. My brother was in the army and it’s the only game all year we’re on opposite sides.

Army-Navy <> Wake Forest-Navy for viewership

People watch that for tradition alone. You think the president will attend any other Navy games?

Certainly there is tradition attached to that game. I'm suggesting the large viewership for it has less to do with that tradition and due more to the fact there are no competing games of relevance.

I'm not disagreeing with you

Jul 23, 2021, 1:25 PM

My comment was to the earlier poster who thought Navy has a huge following.

The context here is how does the ACC counter the addition of Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC and strengthen the conference, football-wise, in kind? Notre Dame is a very strong counter and I don't think anyone would argue. I love the reasonings regarding Navy, but I cannot agree that it is an appropriate counter. Yes, there are a lot of traditions and sentiment it would bring to the conference, but it does not add a significant 'strength' to the ACC. I disagree with those that think West Virginia would be the wrong add. There is much more football potential with West Virginia than with Navy. My choices? Add Notre Dame as full member. Pilfer Penn State from the Big 10. If not Penn State, add West Virginia. Cincinnati, maybe. Central Florida, maybe.

Also for those that think academics is a factor, it shouldn't be and the Virginas need to get over themselves. This is not about who can win at chess. This is about getting stronger.

Just my opinions, folks. Looks like we are in for another wild ride. Happy Friday!
