Wow! I just caught the tail end of the interview with Jack

Holder on FOX. Let me just say that the respect the people of his generation have for others is sorely missing today.

You mean the generation that embraced

willingly put their lives on the line so the world could eventually make progress in regards to social betterment.

Re: I think he meant the generation that would

Those who enlisted after the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor(!) had very few intensions towards "social betterment". They, bye-and-large, had no clue as to what was going on globally, or why Japan would strategically want to do this. They and their parents had grown up with ten years of depression economy, nerves on edge, making only a few cents, or a buck-a-week to help keep their family alive, and they just wanted to kill the "Japs" who had the temerity to attack and kill US Americans, for whatever reason! They willingly put their lives on the line out of a sense of angst and true patriotic duty, without knowing, or even imagining, the consequences of combat experience. And then there was Nazi Germany.... my father served in Patton's 3rd Army, and popular history doesn't even begin to tell the story.... Yes, the Greatest Generation - ever.

I may have gone off point here, but God Bless America, and all who feel the same way!!!

Go Tigers!!!

Wasn’t speaking about him personally. Just about the generation

Sep 1, 2020, 9:08 PM

The original post was referring to the generation that this man belonged to. There are plenty of great millennials and gen z’ers out there as well, but a loud portion of older generations want to lump all of the individuals to the generation as a whole. Which is what happened in the original post. You take one great example and say the entire generation is like that. Just like you did by calling me, someone that has never voted Democrat, a liberal.

Sounds like you did a little lumping of your own.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yet, your first impulse was to make a racial comment...

...about this man's generation. Try to walk it back all you want. Doesn't fly with me.

Sep 2, 2020, 4:27 AM

Guilt.

LOL; everybody thinks their generation is the "most smartest" and "most nicest". But I would argue long and loud that the "progressiveness" of this society has changed little of the underlying problems - the Races (both) still have dysfunctional race politics and misplaced anger. If anything, both are worse.

You can get self-righteous all you want, but I would argue that what is happening right now is Just As Bad If Not Worse as what happened before. There is still Racism. There is also Reverse Racism.

But the gains in the former seem to have given in to greater increases in the Latter, and with Intent.

Thus the names and descriptions of the "Victims" have changed, but not the number of Victims. Until the number goes down, it's all just readjusting the deck chairs on the Titanic.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There's only racism...no reverse-racism

Sep 2, 2020, 7:06 AM

If one practices racism...all are affected in one form or another...directly or indirectly.

2024 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

smh.....

Sep 2, 2020, 9:57 AM

I wouldn't disagree the basic premise -

the problem is that both groups need to accept their responsibility, and right now the only way to get each side to do so is to point each one out separately.

One side seems to want to cast itself as a "victim", no matter the circumstances, and in such a way as not to have responsibility for what is clear antagonism to the greater whole. IMHO, of course.

Man pretty much that WHOLE generation fought off communism, saved the world. Without them you'd be speaking german, japanese or maybe you would not have been born due to death or life changing events for your parents/grandparents.

Re: You mean the generation that embraced

Hey there, don't be "just Kidding", that was some serious stuff back in the day! And "back in the day", we as a nation actually had a sense of humor, and that humor wasn't "politically incorrect", but actually challenged racism, bias, and all things human. If we can't laugh at ourselves, our intellect has no reason for being. It's what makes us created in the image of God.

Go Tigers!!!

It's easy to be a contrarian

Sep 2, 2020, 12:31 PM [ in reply to You mean the generation that embraced ]

The sacrifices that were made by the generation that dealt with the Great Depression and defeating Germany and Japan were huge and life altering for us all. No one said the "Greatest Generation" was perfect, but because of them you live the life you live today. Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Tom Brokow, none of whom are right of center zealots by a long shot, would find your point whatever it is, pointless.

A very desensitized generation for sure. I’m also looking at these gamer clicks. The internet is a breeding ground of misinformation, hate, fake news, etc.

The love of social media has become the root of all evil. It used to be money, but maybe the two are the same.... just saying.

Re: You may have misspelled "narcissism"...

Sep 2, 2020, 4:30 AM [ in reply to You may have misspelled "narcissism"... ]

You are correct, the entitlement is amazing. Kids think they should have everything they want immediately, that their live should exist exactly as their parents or better the day they leave the front door. Used to be kids would wait 6mos for Christmas to get a new football or new shoes, now it's expected the week they decided they wanted it and too often parents oblige with no regard to teaching responsibility, saving, striving to achieve their goal, instead it's handed to them on a silver platter.

Combine that with the lack of respect for authority equals what we see in so many cases today. I actually saw a woman interviewed that blamed the school system for her son's bad behavior because they didn't punish him appropriately. The mother went on to say why does she send her kids to school if they can't teach them how to act?? I was amazed, there was no mention of education nor her responsibility as a parent.

This is the PC, everyone gets an award, sit in the corner timeout, social media crazed society we live in today. I don't see it ever getting better. Until parents actually parent, discipline, teach respect, remind kids there is a difference between adults and youth, and remember the school system is not daycare, we will never see a better era than today, which is worse than last decade, which was worse than the previous decade, etc! You get the point.

I can't imagine what politics and respect will look like in 20-30yrs. Wouldn't be surprised if Marshall Law is implemented prior to maintain the crazy minority facets and malitias. We can only hope!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Minority in my above post...

Spud, you know and understand that when we were coming up, disrespecting others would cause you to have a serious mouth bleed back in the day bc people just wouldn't let you disrespect them without you having to pay a price for it. But in this day and time, little spoiled boys grow up to be sissy wimps that will call the police on you even knowing they were in the wrong, but without any courage enough to back up they're reason for being disrespectful. But, there are people that are willing to teach disrespectful people a lesson on respect for a small fee ;)!!!
