Pruitt's impact....
Sep 2, 2014, 11:14 AM

With the game now behind us I was wondering how you tigers felt about Pruitt's contribution in transforming GA's defense. Many of you thought he would not make a difference. Comparing Grantham's "D" versus CJP's was like night and day....starting with our attitude and finishing with our fundamentals. No, we don't have FSU's talent but I don't think you can deny the impact Pruitt's coaching had on our overall performance Saturday. His half time adjustments were spot on.

I was very surprised, not that he made the necessary adjustments at half time, but that the players he had were able to pull it off.
Kudos to him and the dawgs

took advantage of the things we weren't doing well making short reads, quick hits, the desire or lack of to run the ball at your pressure. Our play calling helped his defense be even more successful as well.

A lot of coaches have Morris' number.

Are you kidding. I would if I thought it would do any good, get on my knees and pray we could play the mutts again this season. Hopefully, if we can some how find our way to a 11/1 10/2 season with the rest of the play off teams having a couple of losses also, hopefully we can get the Mutts in a play off game.

I'm just glad we don't have to play him at FSU every year.

Now he can destroy the coots instead.
I think he called a good game. Morris should have adjusted as well but didn't.
How long till that guy is a head coach though? I'm sure he will be on a few lists after this year.

I think he did a great job adjusting in the second half

and I do think he has greatly improved y'all's defense.
With that said, with regard to the UGA secondary, it's hard for me to pass judgement honestly. We got so darn conservative in the second half when it seemed like maybe we could have at least tried the down field throws that were working in the first half.
However, I can't deny that regardless of the circumstances his defense held us to 15 yards and 1 first down in the second half. I don't care who you are playing, that's dominant.
Congrats on the win, dude. Hope y'all have a great season.

Good game, well-earned win. But don't get it twisted because Gurley and Gurley alone won that game for you. He was a one-man wrecking crew.
Grantham's D looked pretty good last night in it's first game with a rebuilding Louisville team. Don't try to act like he was Kevin Steele or something.

Gurley and he would've run for 400 yards if it wasn't for the Georgia heat!

Cu had 276 total yards at halftime. Pruitt's adjustments played a huge part in containing Morris' offense forcing numerous three and outs. Your defense was on the field much of the 2nd half and their fatigue played a major part of Gurley's success.

That hire may have been the biggest factor in the game.

I think UGA may have turned the corner after the Grantham disaster and so much wasted talent over the past few years. Gurley is fantastic, but he was certainly helped by your defense keeping ours on the field.
Will be fun to watch the defense vs. the chickens, good luck.
BTW, enjoy Pruitt while you have him, he likes to move around apparently.

I knew the Pruitt hire would eventually pay huge dividends for UGa but I didn't excpect it to be so apparent in the first game. That said, the generic, vanilla, and predictable play calling by Morris in the second half certainly made Pruitt's job a lot easier.

pruitt look like a hero in the 2nd.
there's no secret to sending blitzes, it's how the offensive team reacts.
the defense looked better at home, but that's what i'd fully expect.

Pruitt's defensive scheme had an impact..

He is a good coordinator.
But the field position we were put in allowed him to be aggressive.
Your team played well and things snowballed against us. I think Pruitt was the benficiary of the mental impact of the situation, both in this game and last year's with FSU. He took advantage both times, to his credit.

And you can flip it with regard to us. Some folks on here were griping about how our D-Line didn't get after Mason like they thought we would and that we weren't blitzing often. Well, that's probably due at least somewhat to the fact that UGA seemed to be getting the ball on their 40 or the 50 every possession. I think it speaks volumes about our defense that they held firm for as long as they did given the ridiculous field position discrepancy.

I do wish we'd have taken a shot or two in the second half, but at the end of the day credit has to go to the UGA defense for that as well.

To be honest, don't expect Spurrier to come out in the second half carrying under his arm a vanilla play book. He will be carrying the kitchen sink, tub, shower and the toilet to throw at Pukitt's defense!!! And if your defense has a weakness, Old ball Sack will find it. I hope not, but you better expect it!!!

If he's not the hottest Coordinator in the country at the end of the year, I'll be stunned. It's not rocket science what he does, he just gives his guys the confidence to perform. There is nothing schematically that he does that others don't. He just has a feel for the game that is impossible to teach.
He makes MR look like an elite HC.

impact since FSU was much more talented, especially on the D-Line, last year but honestly I think his halftime adjustments made the difference in the game.
Honestly, if we had been able to move the ball as well as we did in the first half and keep Gurley off the field, I think we win by 3 or 4.

Serious question - what adjustments did he make?
Sep 2, 2014, 1:31 PM
|

I know we only got 15 yards total offense in the 2nd half, but I also thought our play calling turned 180 degrees. Was that due to something Pruitt did, due to some change in philosophy on our part, or due to field position?

Only change that I heard mentioned was , we switched our DBs from man in the first half to Zone in the second, allowing the LBers to bring pressure in the secon half.

Us starting inside our own 20 on every drive meant that they could basically turn it loose on us. And for whatever reason we never called a deep route again to loosen them up.
