I saw UGA Spring Game re-run on ESPN the other night.

Jun 9, 2021, 8:43 AM

And I wasn’t blown away at all

Other than Zamir “Zeus” White I didn’t see much firepower on offense

Could any of the Uga brethren fill me in on who y’all’s other playmakers are on offense

Who do we need to “Look out for” so to speak?

Thanks

Probably hard to be blown away from any team's spring game.

The WRs are solid. The hope is Pickens will be back later during the season. Having Arik Gilbert at WR certainly won't hurt and Jermaine Burton looked really good last year.

The Dawgs don't have a Michel or Chubb but are still sitting pretty good at RB with White, James Cook, Kenny McIntosh and Kendal Milton.

Lots of noise and expectations for JT Daniels. He looked really good last season but that was largely against completely outclassed teams. His mobility isn't great and if the Tigers can get to him, could be a long night for the Dawgs.

Ok thanks.

Arik Gilbert

is currently listed as a TE, not a WR. I have wondered if Kirby would move him to TE to plug a weakness, but I've not seen anything to confirm my guess.

The buzz I hear from UGA sports writers is they expect Gilbert will play WR. Dawgs seem to be set at TE with Darnell Washington and Brock Bowers.

Haven't you heard...

their SoCal transfer QB is a Heisman frontrunner. In four starts, Daniels did looked pretty solid. He completed 67% of his passes for 1,231 yards, averaging 10.3 yards per attempt, with 10 TD's and only 2 INT's. However, you have to consider the opponents. His four starts came against Mississippi State, uof6c, Mizzou and Cincinnati. With the exception of Cincinnati, the other three all had horrible defenses (MSU ranked 55th in total defense, Mizzou was 66th, and uof6c was 105th). Against the pass, they were all worse. While Cincinnati was ranked 13th nationally in total defense (outside the top 40 against the pass), that came against a schedule ranked 108th nationally. It will be interesting to see how Daniels performs against a defense with an actual pulse especially a team that can really get after him and make him uncomfortable in the pocket.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Well done

That's one of the most level-headed responses I've seen about this game & Daniels in particular.

I don't know exactly why but I was oddly super excited about Daniels when he was at USC. Swagger, x-factor, not sure, he just felt like a throwback player in a way that made me pay more attention.

He seems legitimate & I don't know what people expect to gleam from spring games anyway----we've seen teams like Alabama start QB's who end up getting replaced outright, for example, and nobody's really paying attention to defense (similar to most games outright, for what it's worth).

I can't understand not being worried at all about UGA I guess is all. We need the win & it's the biggest game of the year. Can't wait!

Great job BigCUFan--thanks for that. Thumbs up and cheers!

Fair points.

The UGA OL will certainly be tested by the Clemson D. Of course everyone here knows how aggressive of a DC Venables is and how he likes to get after the QB.

A big deal for the UGA OL is going to be who ends up starting at LT? Last year's starter, SR Jamaree Salyer, did a very good job last year per his PFF grades, but he is a more natural guard at the next level similar to Clemson's Jordan McFadden. Currently RsSoph. Xavier Truss is penciled in at LT with sliding Salyer down to LG. This allows Super SR Justin Shaffer to play RG as well. That would be ideal.

With that being said, Truss is a little heavy footed on the speed rush and doesn't have very much real game time, so he's battling RsFr. Broderick Jones and true Fr. Amarius Mims for the spot. Jones may be more of a natural RT, but Mims is the prototypical top-10 NFL draft pick kind of LT. I would be surprised if he's ready in game one though.

If Truss holds on and does well enough to be the game one starter at LT, then I'd expect our pass protection up the middle to be more than solid, but we could be a little vulnerable to the speed rush over the top of the LT.

If none of the LT's work out and UGA is forced to keep Salyer at LT, then I'd be concerned about RG and how that spot would hold up against Clemson's DTs.

Good points, although Cincinnati did have the #3 ranked defense nationally in Pass Efficiency. But yeah, who did they play? On the flip side, DJ looked great against Boston College who was 82nd in Passing Yards Allowed and 72nd in Pass Efficiency Defense, and against Notre Dame who was 81st in Passing Yards Allowed and a bit better at 34th in Pass Efficiency Defense. Although I will say that in that 1st game w/ND, they were heavily focused on stopping the run without Trevor, and that was evidenced by Etienne having his lowest ypc of his career at 1.6 (28 yds total), and Clemson's lowest team rushing total of the season at 34. I think it's safe to say that both QBs will be facing a big step up in opposing defenses.

Don't forget the stacked TE room, Washington is a beast but Bowers is who has really impressed in the Spring camp. Not one of your RB would play at UGA,. Don't give me that Shipley BS, the kid is really fast but has zero wiggle. If Edwards (UGA #5 back) played for Tater he would be the starter for 2021.

I still want to hear how your O-line is going to handle the best front 7 in college ball?

Well Cheeser, you’ll find out. Don’t expect to see you here after the game though.

I for one am glad you are stopping. You are one of the most ignorant posters ever. You obviously think very highly of your own opinion, unlike the rest of us - RockHillTiger
