No largemouth? Smallies and Spots. That last pic looks like it could be a Meanmouth. I haven't knowingly caught a Meanmouth but guess they are getting pretty common where the smallies were thriving in the south. You fishing the Saluda up near Pelzer?

hybrid between the smallie and a spot from what I have been told. I caught two of those bream on a crankbait and they were beautiful. When you turned them in the sun just right they had a turqoise/teal band down their side. They were about three quarters of a pound. Annnnnd, I caught those smallies in a spot on the river where I had NEVER caught a fish in 30 years....That just proved that a river changes.....you just never know...you just trust your gut that you need to try it,LOL! Kind of like when Danny ran out of tailbacks that spring and said,"Ok...let's see what Terry looks like over there..".

I thought that was a Meanmouth. Meanmouth is a relatively new name for a crossed Spot and Smallie. Started to hear it used more and more on the Tment trails as the Spots are taking over so many reservoirs and they invade the smallie waters. The Spots spawn at colder temps than Largemouth so they dont cross but at identical times with smallies so they are crossing often. Unfortunately the Spots will likely out-compete smallies in southern waters eventually.

immediately started swimming sideways....It was awesome! They were all on about a 200 yard stretch of very slow moving water. I was wading with the kayak dragging behind me and I was about chest deep...WHen the conditions are like that again I will definitely go back over there. Did not know they called them meanmouths...but that IS what they are...it is pretty cool too when you are that deep and a big smallie hits and the next thing you know it is leaping above your head.....

Your bass pics in order just from what I can tell. 1. Smallie 2. Smallie 3. Spot 4. Meanmouth
That's what I would say without holding them. Funny thing is that every fish you are hold are in the same Sunfish family, the bass and bluegill.

And for some reason we give up fishing for the summer until it starts to cool off. I keep telling my dad and son we can catch fish when it’s hot we just have to deal with the heat and change how we fish.

Its not just that, its the stupid Wake Boats that rock you over the side and the drunk pontooners that think they can drive right over your fishing spot and wave like you were in their way. Then don't get me started on the dummies on Sea-Doos that want to do donuts right beside you because they think they are cool.
I fished 3 days on Hartwell 2wknds ago and the inconsiderate boaters was astonishing. Good thing I dont drink while Im fishing because I might get in trouble.
That said, Spud has it figured out in the summer. Hit the shallow rivers where boaters don't run and get away from the idiots.

TBB, I caught 5 smallies and the two bream yesterday in an eddy in the main

river. I was wading and dragging the kayay behind me. Anyway, I was using a crankbait and you had to hit that eddy just right or they were not there. They were in one little spot about the size of a floor mat..the eddy was probably about 20 feet across, but they were all in one spot.....and they only hit it from one side....If I would have gone up the other side, I probably would not have caught any of them..
.....and I was the only person I saw on the river all day. Most people just won't crawl all over those rocks all day, risking a broken leg, cuts, bruises, and just getting plain WORN OUT. You want a good night's sleep....come do this for about 7 or 8 hours with me....After doing this for three or four months, and I hitch up my bass boat, it seems like a real JOY just to back it in, slide it off the trailer, fire up the motor and get after it!!

Re: And then there are the those bass boats that go

Ha! I have one of them go fast Bass boats but 2 things about that. First, while they do go fast, they dont throw a big wake when running, plus they dont hang out in a spot doing donuts and tend to be more respectful because they dont want people running over their spots also.
2nd thing is there are 2 generations in bass boats. There are older Tment fishermen who are well versed in how to use and now there are HS and College leaguers. Everytime you hear of a bass boat accident its these younguns that think going fast is cool and they dont have the boating experience to drive a 70mph boat. Throw a youngun in a $100k fast bass boat that didnt grow up running boats and you are asking for mistakes. I wish they would drop HP max ratings back down to 150's for HS and College leagues and make them take boaters safety course certificates to get into Bass Tments. Matter of fact, boater safety courses should be required for anyone operating a boat 16ft plus.

A few yrs ago they started putting 'Leashes' on these motors so when these idiots hit something going 70, the motor cant fly all way up into the passenger's lab or drop to bottom of lake.

I saw one video where Mercury ran a test. THey had a remote controlled boat

with a 150 on it I think and they hit something on purpose at about 60 or 70 miles per hour. The boat immediately slows down when the motor comes off, and the motor flies into the middle of the boat. I sow a thing in bassmaster a few years ago when that very thing happened to a guy in a tournament, and the prop sliced his thigh pretty bad. Looked like Wolverine swiped him. Lucky it didn't get his femoral...
Ive seen a couple of idiots run through the middle of Pickens Creek on Russell wide open. There are huge trees just under the surface and it has just been by the grace of God that they didn't hit one....

Ive seen guys smack stumps on Moultrie. I was fishing a tment fishing stumps on a big flat 4' water. I hear this boat running towards me, as soon as I think ' What is this idiot thinking?', Wham. Dude hit a stump, back of boat flew up out of water and did a 180 throwing up a giant wall of water. He was about 75yds from me, I put trolling motor on high to make sure they were not hurt but the passenger was banged up pretty good. Je thought his shoulder or arm was broke but after about 20min he figured out it was just major bruise. The motor and boat handled that smack well enough they could idle to closest landing, we were about 35mi from takeoff.

I like bream because they are plentiful and shame rabbits in their breeding prowess. If I'm really fish hungry and the bream are scarce a two pound LM bass is just as good.

Eat all the Spotted bass you catch and have no regrets. They are prolific and are taking over the native fish. Starting to catch spots on Murray now too which is very disappointing. I fished tournaments on Murray from 1996-2015 and never caught a spot. I fun fished there 2 Christmas ago and caught 4 bass and 2 were spots, I was shocked.

You still got “IT” Spud!! I know that’s the kind of fishing that wears you out but you love every minute of it!
If you could spend some money and hire a film crew & put it on YouTube sharing a few secrets and we’d all watch along with millions more and you’d make more money than you could ever imagine.
You wouldn’t have to work another day with your fishing career!
Thanks for sharing Spud so I can dream some.

Ha! I have super glued cuts many times especially out on the boat. Its a great quick fix and that is what it was used for in WW2 then a medical grade was created for either the Korean or Vietnam war, I forget which.

I’m guilty on the superglue fix too!
Men don’t have time for stitches because it worked last time lol!
Ole Bill Dance was a blooper when he wasn’t showing bloopers. That’s me fishing too, you can get yourself in some fixes chasing little ole fish, with slippery water, hooks, multiple fishing lines, nature and weather.
I’m sure with experience you get much better at avoiding things I get myself into especially with the boat & trolling motor 😂🤣
