Oh no, they get open, often. It's that they have no fight to get the ball in those 50/50 balls, nor do they block worth a crap these days. But QB play has been killing us for 2 years now and that is the major issue.

Every game I’ve been to this year WR are open all the time and other plays they’ll have the inside and could be thrown open but they aren’t. You are right about the 50/50 though MW and Tee was going to come down with it no matter what they had to do there was no fear

It’s got to be hard on AW he’s missed at least 5 TDs this season from not being seen. He could’ve had one of the best freshman WR seasons in a long time

Agreed. He and Davis Allen need to be the primary targets for receiving at this point (not the Ngata staredown every pass play). Especially with Beaux out now. Hope AW sticks around and rides the storm for a little while longer till we can get everything fixed. He is a playmaker and is a busted tackle away from big plays everytime he touches the ball.

One of my biggest worries is him looking at his buddy down in Tennessee and jumping ship. Don’t think he will but man it would suck

Because he was holding the ball too long waiting for AW to get open. I mean I can't blame him for wanting to throw to AW, the guy is such a weapon, but he just needs to be moving on to other targets quicker.

That's why I posted this. They can't win 50/50 balls or block like Jeff Scott receivers but they can get open.

In fairness these are the plays needed to win football games and sustain drives. Living on the 50/50 is not really good offense and DJ doesn't always give them a fair shot more like a 75/25 alot of the time.

when you stare down your primary until you get sacked. He has terrible pocket presence and almost never goes through his progressions.

Not to mention that every QB he has worked with hasn't seemed to develop with him as QB coach. Deshaun and Trevor were as good as freshmen as they were when they left. DJ has gotten worse. That tells you all you need to know.

Deshaun got WAY better in his time at Clemson.
People forget that he was not the number 1 player in the country like Trevor.
Trevor also got better while at Clemson, but the reason that it did not show as much is because Clemson forced him to stop taking risks.
After Trevor started his 2019 season throwing INTs he got ultra conservative for the rest of his career.
I think the coaches convinced him that Clemson was good enough to score lots of points without taking chances, and for the most part they were right until we played teams with equal talent.
Combine Trevor not taking risks with plays being called to keep the ball from being put in jeopardy (throws over the middle) and you get people saying that Trevor didn't improve.

How do you blame a playcaller for calling plays that get beat the coverage but the QB misses the read or throws a bad ball?

It seems to me that the simple question should be... "is the middle open or closed?". If the safeties have it closed over the middle, look outside. Meaning, throw where the safeties are not. The receivers are making the correct read and running away from safety help into space - wide open. Repeatedly. The QB is missing the read. It's a pre-snap read or 10 yards at the latest. Our OL gives more than enough time. Just an observation by a huge Clemson fan.
