I predict Dabo's type of watertight buyout won't be often repeated going forward

Very few coaches will be able to command watertight buyouts going forward (the exceptions being Kiffin, Kirby, Ryan Day, and Saban if he comes back) - schools will demand manageable buyouts and move on to the next guy on the list if the coach's agent doesn't agree. This business of paying people not to coach will be a major contention point in negotiations. Dabo is one fortunate dude.

Never underestimate what someone will do if they want something bad enough.
There aren’t that many elite coaches or potential elite coaches to choose from and programs tend to pay up to land one.

Dabo took a contract for Pennie’s on the dollar. He built his fortune by being rewarded for winning and winning big. He has earned ever penny he is paid. He put Clemson on the map, applications and accepted for CU went up. All contracts need to be like Dabo started, reward based.

Folks seem to remember that Dabo was being paid only a million + a season when he started but fail to bring up 99% of Athletic Directors would have made Dabo unemployed after firing Bowden. The opportunity Clemson gave Dabo is almost unprecedented

I believe TB saw something special about Dabo from being his boss at Bama. Then I believe Dabo was named Real Estate Estate Agent 3 consecutive years in Alabama before TB lured him to Clemson as a Position Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Clemson. Dabo was instrumental in bringing CJ Spiller to Clemson.
When TB resigned he recommended Dabo for the Interim HC’s position. Dabo earned the permanent job. And he has earned the salary he is being paid.
Go back through every HC’s record. Even Danny had back to back mediocre season and had a 6–6 season. Clemson is going through its first bad season per wins and losses in 17 and 1/2 years as the HC who has won 2 NC’s during the 4 years we played in the NC game.
He has been loyal to Clemson. I would bet he has been offered bigger contracts but has remained faithful to a place he like Danny Ford and Tommy Bowden has a special love for Clemson.
But fans have turned on him in his first season of real adversity lack a pack of wolves !!! Maybe some fans are more angry at players because they are being paid now. But Dabo is an easy target !!!
Clemson is lucky to have a man of Dabo’s character and loyalty. If I were Clemson’s Head Coach after several very negative comments from a some fans, I would say kiss my ### take my $60 million and would not look back.
In the so called declining years we won 10 or more games all but one year we only won 9 games. Many programs would pay big for a consistent record of double digit wins from 2011-2024 (during 1 of those years Dabo won 9 games) so 10 or more wins out of the last 13 of 14 full seasons. Even Danny Ford cannot match that record. Dabo has one bad year when college football in full blown chaos. Yet fans have used Dabo as a punching bag.
If I am a recruit reading all the negative post about Dabo and rumors of leaving or being fired, I would re-open my recruiting to.
How many more recruits must we lose before Clemson fans unite behind Dabo as long as he is Clemson’s Head Coach???

The decommits are most likely recruits recognizing the lack of development in players here. If they want to go to the next level they have to coaches that can help them improve. That is not happening at Clemson.

Based on my reading on this topic of college-pay-to-play, I feel that maybe my feelings on this may reflect the majority opinion of other people.
I am NOT angry at the PLAYERS who are accepting multi-million dollar deals to play for a college team. The emotion felt by most of us is NOT ANGER, but REVULSION.
The HYPOCRISY of the NCAA to allow an UNCONTROLLED, UNREGULATED, FREE-FOR-ALL, NO RULES, HAPHAZARD melding of a professional contract model to be thrown into the pot with academic scholarships under the guise of STUDENT-ATHLETES is OFF THE CHART insane.
The NFL would UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES accept this college pay-to-play model for their league of teams. The NFL has very well defined financial contract and trade rules in place.
At the college level, this present model has completely tilted the scales to the wealthiest teams that comprise the billionaire-boys-club of college football. It will only take another 1-2 years for the model to harden into those 6-8 teams that will become the permanent oligarchy of college football, with the remaining teams being used as “scrimmage games” during the regular season in preparation for the playoffs for those 6-8 teams.
Bottom line is that Dabo was not building Clemson’s football program around this pay-to-play model. Now he is stuck without the $30M-$40M in cash per year to fund a player roster with the talent to be in that 6-8 team category.
This is also most certainly where much of our OTHER EMOTION, FRUSTRATION, is being emoted on this board.

I think they see these buyouts are just the cost of doing business

…these football programs are so flush with cash, these $50M-$100M buyouts are just part of the operating budget.
Case in point is that the athletic director at LSU, Woodward, had negotiated the Jimbo Fisher buyout at Texas A&M.
What did he get for that payout to Jimbo? A PROMOTION to athletic director at LSU.
The buyout and payout to Jimbo was seen as a VALUED QUALIFICATION, not a disqualifying past experience.
I think these huge buyouts will continue to be the norm.
