next July, can't ####### wait!
Doing a San Diego golf trip next June too that's been scheduled.
So in back to back months I'm knocking off two bucket list courses in Torrey Pines South Course and St. Andrews Old Course.
Anyone know what to expect at the Old Course?

nailed just about every pot hole bunker on the course, and I think there are like 115.
You can play it backwards.
It's windy and caddies will have booze on them if you want.
Take a pre-round dump.

just to get the experience.
My buddy's brother is one of the others playing, he's the only one that's not sub 4 handicap, he's a 20 something...I'm predicting a hotel hit in his future.

It's the best walk in golf. Period.

Don't stress about how you play. It doesn't matter. Greens are massive, so your scoring is purely just can you get it in the hole in 2 strokes from 100 ft. You can hit it anywhere, especially left.
Just enjoy the walk. Greatest of your life.

for the Open...2022? The 150th.
One day, it was like 85 F and sunny. The next day, it was 44 F and misty/rainy ha.
The ground is hard AF. like driveway hard. bunkers are way worse in person then they look on TV.
the town is sick. Edinburgh is sick. Scotland is awesome, definitely want to go back for a longer stint.

But I have played Torrey. It’s awesome! The North Course doesn’t get the hype the South does, but it’s just as good imo and possible even more picturesque.

The package he won also included a round at Castle Course.
I think the group wants to play a couple more rounds while there. The rest of the time wifekrzy & lilkrzy, and I will spend time with some of wifekrzy's family who lives near London.

I'm more prone to the old school courses like the New Course, Crail, or Elie.
Kingsbarns is incredible, but it's much more of an American golf course. There's nothing wrong with that, but it is a $600 or $700 round of golf on a manufactured course when you can play a local like Crail or Elie for $100 with no caddie.
I truly don't say that to discount Kingsbarns. It's just a different vibe than the traditional Scottish links courses.

Pro Tips:
Pay for a caddie (you may be required to anyway) or you will never know where to hit it. They are good reading the greens and allowing for weather conditions )wind)
Gorse is not your friend. Like walking through a huge roll of barbed wire but worse. If you hit into it just take a drop.
Some holes are driveable for a <10 handicap player. Problem is the 4' undulations on the green.
Hit one out of the road hole bunker (even if it's after you finish the hole) you will see the difficulty.
Get the Swilician Bridge pic
If you have time, Play North Berwick West and Kingsbarns. Both are close to St. Andrews.

Play Kingsbarns. My dad spent a week scoring the Open (2005 IIRC), then spent a week playing golf. He said Kingsbarns was the best of the bunch by far, including St. Andrews.

to the middle and depending on where the pin is and how the wind is blowing it could be a 4-5 club range.
