With BV it may come down to what's best for his family...

100 million+ over 10 years vs. 20 million over 10 years (not sure of his compensation..but just roll with it). I know 2 million/year is nothing to scoff at but 100 million+ sets his family up for generations. I hope he stays but if offered I can't see him turning it down.

Finally, an adult in the room echoes what I said yesterday and got called names for pointing out the obvious. Thank you.

I can understand the money argument

I think much of the gruff you got was for making 2 additional arguments: 1) If I remember correctly you said he'd be stupid not to take it and 2) You took the opportunity to bash coach TE and Dabo's public support of him.

Let's make him an offer he can't refuse; Coaching up one of the best defenses in the country at 2 Mill + a year or getting canned by OU after 3 years because as we all know the only defensive coordinator in this neck off the woods that can make it as a Head Coach is some "Smart " guy. Oh wait, he hasn't coached a team to a National Championship. Never mind.

I want him to stay, but I don't see the risk of things not working out at Oklahoma as being a career killer or anything. For starters, he'd likely get a huge buyout for getting fired if that were to happen which doesn't include the salary he would've already earned before then. Also, it's not as if other top teams wouldn't be immediately calling him to offer big money to be their DC after that point.

I see your point. On one hand you could say he makes plenty and he's got job stability here for years to come. On the other hand if you get offered 100 million, you could get fired after one year and still have one heck of a buy-out. That'll be his call. He really seems like a guy that just loves coaching defense to me though.

Once you have more money than you can spend, money is only an issue if you are greedy or if you are using it to keep score as a status thing.
I've never seen any indication Dabo or BV are motivated by the money which was kind of clear with Dabo when he moved money to his assistants rather than taking raises and bonusses himself.
I know people like to look at numbers, but how do you think having $10M vs $100M would affect your life?
Unless BV wants to be a head coach or is looking for a new challenge, not sure why he would take any head coaching job.
Working with people you really like and who really support you and make you successful isn't that common and isn't something that should be taken for granted.
and I'd guess if he were head coach he'd need to hire a defensive coordinator and then he's got the issue of wanting to make the hands on decision with a DC who probably doesn't want someone looking over his shoulder.

They may not be motivated only by money, but they both still like money. It's not as if Dabo turned down the $10 million per year or anything. I get what you're saying though, BV isn't likely to leave JUST because he gets offered additional money.
