This was the moment when the runner at second who was already determined out made contact with purify while the ball was being thrown in attempt to get the runner coming from 1st out. You can see Petry is not close to getting home yet. I’m just real curious at the justification of how they OVERTURNED that call.

Right. Idk if it’s when the interference occurs or when it’s called by the umpire. It occurred before Petry scored but was called by the umpire after Petry scored. Either way, I’ve never been so casual about being screwed out of a run because I knew it wasn’t going to affect the game anyways 😂 scar had no chance against us

I don’t think they called interference on the contact with Purify. Part of the interference rule is when a member of the offensive team is near a base to impersonate a baserunner or otherwise confuse or hinder the defense. The umpire pointed this out emphatically but by the time he did Petry had scored. When contact was made with Purify the second base ump called the runner at 2nd base out because Jarren hit the bag but made no other motion or call until Woita was on the ground in front of the 2nd base bag while the batter runner slides past him into second. Again, I don’t know for sure but that is my best guess based on how the umpire at 2nd reacted. I think Woita thought he was called for interference on Purify which is why he just laid there. Pretty bizarre play all the way around. You can argue it was interference on Purify because Woita’s cleat clearly hits Jarren in the foot. That’s a subjective call no doubt. I’ve seen that given and not given over the years. But, like you said, if that was the call the 2nd base ump made then the run shouldn’t have counted which is why I believe he didn’t make that call. Especially after they went to replay and counted the run. Either way, the inning was over at that point.

I appreciate your take on the play. It is sorry that the announcers don’t even try to decipher the play if it doesn’t favor their team of interest.

crew, but come on. They spent the whole time commiserating about how there should have been no call. One of them was like "What was he supposed to do, where was he supposed to go", well outside of the baseline might have been helpful. Umps pretty much kept the peace by awarding the run to the chickens and calling interference to end the inning.
I think that play may have kept Purify from winning the Bob Bradley Award?...it was a tailor-made DP. That said, Darden pitched a helluva game Saturday and deserved the award.

ignorance than homerism.
I just kept screaming at the TV, you can't just lay there in the base path during a live play. At least roll into the grass. Seemed like an easy call that everyone was confused about.

What I don't understand was that Woita was clearly out

Then he realized the ball was still in play. I understand him turtling up to try and get out of the way. But when he did Purify clearly ran into him as Purify was going back to the bag, preventing him clear access to the ball. The USuC runner was still not across the plate.
I understand you explanation but to me, replay shows Woita on the ground and Purify interfering with him. By that rational the play is over at that point and that is the third out. The runner did not cross the plate. Not sure how the umps decided the run counts.
In any case the good guys won...

Your analysis is correct. Petry had not scored and run shouldnt have counted.***

Idk if anyone remembers, but we got screwed on something similar in 2012 against SC in their Regional. Had a big inning going and it ended on a questionable runner interference play. I don't feel sry in the least with how much help they get against us in every sport.
