I get your point, but this is more like bad coaching/tackling technique than targeting.

Targeting doesn’t have to be against a defenseless player anymore, if the head is lowered you are ejected it makes zero sense that offensive players can do this, if he were to get tackled like this the defender would be ejected

Hate to see that guy get hurt, but I agree with you. That defensive guy just stood there and got run over. He should have rushed forward aggressively to make the tackle.

I see the RB hitting the DB with his shoulder in the shoulder pad of the defender.

I've seen RBs lower their helmet and make contact with the crown. I just don't see that on this replay.

I've seen worse.

But, generally speaking, I agree with you.

It's like the officials only "protect the defender from themselves"!

The rule is supposed to protect the player from themselves. Sitting them out is, I guess to make them think about what they have done and remind them how to keep your head up. But, the ball carrier often lowers their head and body trying to curl up and be a harder target to tackle.

If you are going to protect the defender from bad form; you should also protect offensive players from "themselves"!

There’s been multiple targeting calls this year with a defender making a tackle exactly like this and getting hit with targeting. Wasn’t saying this play he lowered his head just saying if the defender were to hit this man like this he would’ve been ejected

But have seen multiple players were the ball carrier specifically lowers their heads to try and run someone over when the defense isn’t allowed to do the same thing it makes literally ZERO sense. Try to protect defenseless players as morphed into changing the outcome of games because you didn’t like a hit
