Killed the bride when leaving the wedding reception. I hope this woman gets 20 years to think about her poor choices.
Most of us have driven drunk at some point… but I def went the speed limit, stopped at every stop sign and was prob overly cautious as to not get pulled over.

I’m getting tired of all the carts around Clemson. They should have to have a license tag and seat belts.

It's like a upper middle class status symbol to see how much you can spend to drive something to the community pool that isn't your car.

I've found people without carts have an irrational hate for the carts... and then they get a cart and realize how wrong they were.

It lives at litchfield and gets driven on private roads intended for golf carts. Still dislike them on public roads and in traditional neighborhoods. They are used interchangeably with cars in situations when they have zero real advantages to a car, and as 19B said, you’ll inevitably see them going around driven by 12 year olds.

They cause 0.0 problems in "traditional neighborhoods" unless they are being misused by kids, which is on the parents, not the carts. They also aren't a problem on low speed limit public roads. I don't swing mine out onto anything where the speed limit is more than 25 mph.
You know what is an actual problem, though? Drunkies driving 65 mph in a low speed beach community.

insured. And you have to have a valid driver's license (read: 15 years old, at least) to operate one. I've watched cops in my town ignore all of that stuff for years. I guess enough people finally complained that they started paying some amount of attention to it. Saw a guy with his family in a NICE cart in the clubhouse parking lot get 3 tickets worth nearly a grand--assuming a judge will reduce or drop those when he gets it registered, but he claimed he didn't know.
I've also seen LOTS of friggin' 10 year olds zipping around on neighborhood streets with no adults--it's not even legal with an adult riding in the cart, but what parent in their right mind is going to let a child drive a vehicle on the street with cars and trucks, completely unsupervised? I'd put those MFers in jail for a night just for being utterly stupid.

It's pretty rampant here, the whole get drunk and don't pay attention to the kids. Can't speak to banging neighbors although i have my suspicions on some friends

The rule of weight >>> the rule of law

Similar to bicyclists who ride on narrow and heavily travelled roads, the golf cart drivers think that everyone sees them. Those same golf cart drivers, self absorbed and oblivious to the fact that automobiles are often driven by distracted drivers, seem unable to grasp the primary law of highway traffic:
It is the rule of weight, not the rule of law, that matters in a traffic accident.

Where exactly are you seeing golf carts driving in SC?
May 2, 2023, 11:17 AM
|
|
If they aren't a LSV, they can only legally ride on streets that are 35 mph or less (the Folly incident was on a 25 mph road). If they're on another road, they're breaking the law and should be dealt with accordingly. Bicyclists actually have more leniency in SC over this.
So yeah, if y'all are spotting these things on roads of more than 35 mph, you're right and that should be enforced. But give me some examples where y'all are spotting this.
You're really seeing golf carts on highways?

We really don't know the facts

Who and how did they determine that she was going 65 mph. Was the golf cart stopped in the middle of the road? Did the golf cart cross and get t-boned? There are no street lights. They say she was drunk yet but results are pending.
Terribly tragic and if she is guilty, she needs prison time to help deter future drunks driving.
I had an employee arrested for a serious crime many years ago. It was amazing how factually incorrect the news articles were. They were just wrong with many facts, yet written like it was factual evidence. And to be clear they were wrong both ways. They didn't make him sound more guilty than he was or less guilty just incorrect.

Cops can determine this very easily. And there's nowhere on Folly where you are allowed to go anywhere near 65 mph, drunk or not. This is open/shut.

While i can agree the car driver will ultimate be found liable, and maybe even guilty, there is very little in this world that is simply open/shut.

You are brave to raise this golf cart safety issue during the post.
I swear, every time I visit a coastal community and get off the US highway, there are numerous people who are driving around in golf carts on the secondary roads as if they were on some well groomed trail.
Day and night … the golf cart drivers are on these well-travelled public roads. Sure, golf carts are fun. They are also poorly visible, even those tricked out golf carts which will never see an actual golf course. Those fancy golf carts have head lights and tail lights, but are nevertheless poorly visible at night.
Crash worthiness? Everyone knows this (including the owners / drivers of the golf cart).
I am surprised that there are still so few reports about horrible traffic accidents involving golf carts.
My guess is that municipal authorities refuse to clamp down on golf cart use on public roads because the golf carts have become so popular. Public safety? Public shmasty. Got an election to win.

IT WAS A 25MPH ZONE, THE OUTCOME IS PROBABLY MUCH DIFFERENT IF SHE ISN'T IMPAIRED AND ISN'T GOING 2.5 TIMES OVER THE SPEED LIMIT.
