a great many professors didn't go into the profession to teach Americas youth. Instead, they spend a career hiding in some college or university expousing their liberal agenda because they don't have what it takes to cut it working in the real world.

Oh stop with that kind of nonsense anti-education rhetoric.
That is exactly what it is--rhetoric.
If you actually read the article and don't have a knee jerk reaction--he raises an important point (whether you agree with it or not) about gentrification and the racial make-up of the university. I wish he would have emphasized the point that this exists across campuses in the US and in the workforce.
But please refrain from parroting rhetoric just because you don't agree with the article. Debate the merits of the arguments rather than making blanket generalizations.

is exculding Blacks from enrollment and acceptance.
This is just plain absurd!!
Should the school have different standards for admission based soley on race or ethnicity? That is crazy and scary thinking, but has to be the conclusion of his thought process.
I doubt there is any puroseful discrimination, yet this is the undertone of the article.
He really should be fired or have to go through some training on racial sensitivity.

I'm all in favor of racial and sexual equality but that means we put an end to hiring or granting admissions based on factors other than merit.

income inequality and poor public education don't just prevent minority students from excelling in the classroom.
The biggest factor is parents who don't give a **** or take an active role or interest in the education of their chldren.

know. If you think income inequality and poor public education systems doesn't effect students, you're fooling yourself. Oh, by the way here in South Carolina income inequality and a poor public education system effect white people too. So thanks for showing your ignorance on the condition of our state. Not all white people are middle class and above. Go to Newberry, Union, Laurens, a majority of Lexington county, and many other counties, and you will find income inequality and poor public education systems adversely affecting white people. There are a lot white people in this state stuck in the same cycle of poverty that certain black people are caught up in too.

He did say that "gentrification," in all its forms, tends to push poor black people out of the way. The question isn't whether that happens or not, it's whether we should oppose gentrification because of that fact or whether we try to address the issues that cause gentrification to have a "disparate impact" on black people. SC needs to address the fact that the "corridor of shame" is largely black. It could do that by sending unqualified black students to Clemson, but I'm not sure that's the best way of addressing the problem.

Many times that just means that many of the students disagree with the professor's thinking and are too sensitive to argue in a reasoned way when challenged. Students think they know more than the professor, and when the professor speaks with the authority of his position, they feel "condescended" to. Students need to sack up and come back with strong arguments when they disagree rather than being offended that somebody with more knowledge would challenge them.

called the guy a bigot for pointing out income inequality and a lack of good public education in this state, which is a fact. South Carolina has some of the worst public schools in the country. You can't dispute that.

I don't particularly agree with this professor's perspective, but calling him a "bigot" for having that perspective is way off. He's correct that "gentrification"- a process some people think of as simply "progress"- makes it clearer to those being left behind that they're behind. As Clemson improves the quality of the education it offers and becomes more selective, in a state like SC with a large population of poor black people, there's going to the be the feeling that black people, in particular, are the ones being left behind. So Clemson might have to choose between excellence and selectivity and diversity.
But, in general, this prof's way of thinking is common among people who teach "pop culture" and "social movements." That's because their fields of study are seen as being inherently political, so the subject itself is part of the movement. It's also why the subject is better taught within more traditional subjects.
