Came across a decent sized boat stuck in the surf at Kiawah today. Beach patrol arrived and attempted to push it back out without success as it was 2 guys and a big boat and the tide had still not come in.

Got the rest of the story. The Coast Guard apparently got the folks off the boat about a mile off Seabrook a couple of days ago as they had lost engine power.

The owners apparently anchored the boat, but alas the anchor was all of 7 lbs with a 20 ft rope.

Said boat then not surprisingly drifted off and is now beached with the engine compartment flooded and the stern partially destroyed by the wave action.

The boat is registered to someone on Wadmalaw Island. Here's to you Mr Nifty Boater. Hopefully a fuel spill is not the next consequence of some #### poor planning.

runs into it. There is a landing and on the opposite side a point where the swifter water runs a bit deeper than the river. Between that last lake landing and the mouth of the river is a huge sandbar.

One late Spring morning around 10am while I was sitting peacefully at the edge of that swifter water a flock of teenagers showed up with a ~18' ski boat. The engine was over 200hp and I knew the peace was soon to end.

The idiots fired up the engine and slammed the accelerator lever to the wide open position, not a single second of warmup for the engine. I thought about how I would kill them all in their sleep if they treated my outboard like that.

A few seconds later I heard the girls onboard, and boys alike scream bloody murder. They had headed straight for the mouth of the river and 'landed,' that boat in 18" of water about 65yds from shore.

I mused as the operator raised and lowered the trim trying to get the boat to move. It delighted me to see the sandy mud being spewed 5' into the air and decided not to tell them how to deal with the situation.

I suppose one of them had a cell phone for a couple hours later a huge reclamation boat came up the lake and dragged them to freedom. They went home and I continued to enjoy the day. THE END!
