Wow. Son of still can't find a graphics card.

What he wanted for 300 and change is now $1900. About the only thing available at his price point is the GTX1050. My graphics card is a 1080. I paid $300 and change for mine. They're selling for $1200 now. It's insane. There are basically no cards less than three years old under $1k.
Bitcoin sux.

Right now it's best to buy pre built.

I hate to even say that, but you can get an Alienware with a 3080 installed for $3k, which is what I found a 3080ti GPU going for on ebay by itself.

cards though. Unfortunately. In the next six months we will likely start seeing other problems arise.

This idea that technology would get people through the pandemic is great, until the very foundation of the technology is upended by manufacturing and shipping problems with increased demand. As things break in the coming months and need maintenance, we will not only see shortages of things that are not essential, but the maintenance of essential things will become a problem. Like people getting their allergy shots. Keeping your internet running? Bank transactions, the possibilities are frightening really. They've already stopped some auto manufacturing plants because of the shortage.
Biden and the White House have seen this coming for a while now, but there's probably little they can do about it. Demand is up because of remote working/BTC/etc., and supply is down because of reduced manufacturing. Just don't be surprised to see some major problems in the next 6 months or so cropping up in technology and things that rely on chips.

Agree but this is a broader problem in manufacturing

"my friend" sees this as production ramps back up to pre-pandemic volumes, suppliers, especially smaller ones, are having issues meeting demand, creating huge ripples in supply chains. The net result is lower on-time shipments and customer or patients being impacted. It will take two to three years to smooth out.

Globalism is being hit hard, and we depend on it

While we get back to "normal" levels, if Detroit is making cars at 100% capacity, and China is making chips at 20% capacity, it seems to be the foreign parts that are the problem in the chain. Take freezers. I'm going to just get on a wait list for one. Demand is high, manufacturing is back in the US and has been for a while, but we can't assemble them here without the parts from overseas.
I have a feeling China and our other trading partners, for whatever reason, has been hit far harder than their numbers and propaganda show. Either by shutting down, or whatever reasons......
I went to get an allergy shot yesterday and the server was down. No shots. Server down. Fine. That happens. But then I learned it was every office, nationwide. That's probably tens of thousands of allergy shots, maybe more, not being given. Said the server had been offline all last week and this week. Now that kind of a problem is something you know would be fixed in hours, if not minutes normally. But they're going into week two now not being able to give shots because the servers manage the dosage for each patient, the vials, reordering the vials, and scheduling the shots. And this isn't some dumpy local place. It's 100+ offices across the country. No clue how many doctors, or patients. Doc never told me the reason for the server outage, but I suspect it's an inability to find a part that in the past would have either been on a shelf nearby, or could be gotten quickly. This is something you pull out all stops to fix, and there's no excuse for 1.5 weeks being essentially out of business.

had the same issue. Found a Desktop on Amazon with a AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB Video Card in it (and met his minimum requirements) for $750, which was the same or less than what it was priced at separately. We were going to go with the GTX 1050, but it seemed like every conversation was how he'd replace it later as he'd want 6GB or 8GB. Seemed like a waste of $300.
